Family adversity

At the dawn of the twentieth century, the medical care of mothers and children was largely relegated to family members and informally trained birth attendants. As the industrial era progressed, early and key public health observations among women and children linked the persistence of adverse health outcomes to poverty and poor nutrition.

Despite the higher burden of cervical cases, screening programs in highly affected developing countries remained low. This made the disease to be present at an advanced stage which is almost always fatal, causing enormous pain and suffering for the individual and having significant adverse effects on the welfare of their families and community.

People living with dementia (PLWD) and caregivers are adversely impacted by lack of meaningful activity leading to worse symptoms and impaired quality-of-life. There is a critical need to develop effective and well-tolerated treatments that mitigate clinical symptoms, engage PLWD and support caregiver wellbeing.

Plants evolved from long-term adaptation to form regulatory mechanisms of perception, transduction, and response to stresses. The CBL–CIPK signaling system is a basic calcium sensor that plays an important role in sensing adverse environmental stimuli. CBLs can perceive and bind Ca2+ under adversity and then specifically interact with CIPKs. The activated CBL–CIPK complex phosphorylates downstream target proteins (such as ion channels and transporters), or regulates transcription factors and stress responsive genes.

GATA-5, a zinc-finger transcription factor and member of the GATA family proteins 1–6, is known to be involved in cellular differentiation. We recently found that tumor-specific hypermethylation of the GATA5 CpG island (CGI) occurs in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and is associated with an adverse clinical outcome.

The impact and consequences of cancer on the patients and their family caregivers (FCs) are closely intertwined. Caregivers’ burdens can be increased due to the patients’ unmet needs and unresolved problems. Additionally, the caregivers’ unmet needs may adversely affect their own well-being and the patients’ health outcomes.

Adherence to MDR-TB treatment remains a pressing public health problem to address. It requires enhanced efforts towards resolving medical problems like adverse drug effects, developing short duration treatment regimens, reducing pill burden, motivational counselling, and flexible timings for DOT services, social support, and family support for patients and improving awareness about disease. Further implementing research is needed for devising strategies to address these issues and to document practices for improvement in adherence to MDR-TB treatment.

Healthcare access and adverse family impact among U.S. children ages 0–5 years by prematurity status
Many children and their families are affected by premature birth. Yet, little is known about their healthcare access and adverse family impact during early childhood. This study aimed to (1) examine differences in healthcare access and adverse family impact among young children by prematurity status and (2) determine associations of healthcare access with adverse family impact among young children born prematurely.
