  • Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) are being established so that it can help farmers in earning more returns through collective input purchase, collective marketing, processing, increasing productivity through procuring better inputs, augmenting knowledge of farmers in better management practices and ensuring quality. An attempt was made to develop a standardized scale to analyze the attitude of members towards Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) using summated rating methods suggested by Likert and Edwards. The attitude scale developed was found to be highly reliable and valid.

  • The present paper was written based on analysis of secondary data of various cases of FPOs in South India. A total of five FPOs were selected and reviewed based on the set objectives. The analysis revealed that there are about 683 FPOs in India. Individual cases revealed that FPOs have been helping a boon for farmers as it enhanced the income of farmers, enable savings by reducing the input, transportation and labour costs. It has also helped them enhancing their marketing intelligence.

  • Marketing of cashew nut is not properly organized. The channel consists of the producer, village merchant, wholesalers or agents and exporters. Since it is an activity restricted to only three months in a year, there are no exclusive traders for raw cashew nuts. Often there are intermediaries or wholesalers between the traders and manufactures who provide the services of information and make the deal. This has resulted in middleman playing an important role in the marketing of nuts thereby reducing the margin or dividends for the cashew farmers.

  • To popularize Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz.) among the farmers of Ernakulum district of Kerala, a front line demonstration organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR- Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute on 10 selected farmer‟s field during 2010-11. For this purpose, two cultivars of Cassava i.e. “Sree vijay” and “local variety” were used and the demonstration was conducted during the kharif season of (May to September).   • In the present paper the year wise production and sales of organic inputs are taken into account to derive the total area and economic impact thereof. The receipts of produce sold at laboratories served as the source of information to the study. The results indicate that, the sale of inputs is on rise, so also the farmers who are adopting these technologies in their own field are also more. People are approaching KVK for these technologies. To increase the production of organic inputs KVK, Bagalkot is imparting the technologies of Vermicompost production (Biradar, 2006).

  • This study compares the price of organically and inorganically grown produce in online organic and conventional stores in 55 produces covering cereals, pulses, oilseeds, spices, plantation, vegetables and fruits in Coimbatore city of Tamil Nadu, India. The results indicated that price of organic produces were 63 per cent costlier than their conventional counterparts.

  • Vermicompost is a fine granular, dark brown/black coloured organic product prepared by earthworms by using animal dung and organic wastes which is much useful for soil health. It has biological properties as rich in population of soil micro-organisms compared with those in conventional composts. Vermicompost has adequate amount of micronutrient and macronutrients depending on sources of earthworm’s feedstock.   • Physical and mechanical properties of several bamboo species have been studied extensively. Chapter 3 presents the fiber length distribution of Phyllostachys pubescens at different age, layer and location. Contact angle of different layers of the bottom portion of three year old bamboo were measured by dynamic contact angle measurement. Specific gravity and bending properties of bamboo at different ages, horizontal layers, and height locations were also determined. Also compressive strength at different ages and height locations were determined.
