  • This study explores the driving factors for farmers in sustainable paddy farming in Malaysia. The research is exploratory in nature, using interview and observation approaches. Three sustainability factors are focused in this study; namely the economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The results indicate that early exposure and knowledge, education and experience in sustainable agriculture are the driving force behind shifting attitudes towards sustainable agriculture and sustaining practices.

  • Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) is a simple and low cost water saving technology for helping farmers to cope up with the increasing water scarcity in irrigated environment. Irrigation is regulated by intermittent flooding in rice field with the help of Pani Pipe (perforated field tube). The study was carried out in Puri District of Odisha to ascertain the constraints perceived by the farmers that inhibit the adoption of AWD technology. All the selected farmers involved in adoption of AWD were interviewed as respondents.

  • The transfer of IPM in rice is undertaken in the 10 villages of Mandal and Quatbullapur Mandal of Rangareddy district of Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. Out of these 10 villages, a total of 70 farmers from the 5 villages viz. Medchal, Atweli, Dublipur, Girmapur and Railapur were selected randomly. The IPM module for the particular region was developed, validated and promoted with the use of appropriate scouting tactics, proper identification and diagnosis of pests and diseases.

  • A study was conducted to analyze the perception and pesticides usage practices by the small tomato growers in Ramanagara district of Karnataka using the pretested questionnaire and field observations. Detailed Information was obtained from 129 tomato growers wherein the information related to extent and types of pesticides used, knowledge about pesticides and their effectiveness was collected. Most of the respondents (98.44%) were male and most commonly farmers use 25 pesticides in tomato ecosystem.

Nevertheless, >50% of these respondents were aware of the negative effects pesticides are likely to cause to humans, animals and environment.
