  • A policy of high rice prices can increase paddy farm incomes but also cause a rise in rice expenditures for farm households. Such a policy is needed to stimulate production but can harm rice consumers, especially poor families. We surveyed 284 paddy farmers in Gantar Sub-District, Indramayu Regency, Indonesia to analyze the impact of increasing rice prices on farmers’ net incomes, including poor paddy farmers. We found that a price increase benefits farmer if the price transmission elasticity is more than 0.2 for non-poor paddy farmers or 0.6 for poor paddy farmers.

  • Sustainable food value chains can offer important pathways out of poverty for the millions of small farms in developing countries. The need to concentrate state support for the development of small farms is proved in the article. The results of the cluster analysis of small farms show that it is advisable to send state support to the development of farms in which revenues are generated from the sale of crop products, as well as from other crop products - "niche" products and animal husbandry.

  • The present investigation was carried out in Sivasagar district of Assam by interviewing 120 farm women selected randomly from 6 villages with an objective to assess profile characteristics and extent of participation of farm women in sericulture. Appropriate statistical was used for analysis and interpretation of data.
