In this paper, the continuous stiffness measurement (CSM) indentation is employed to investigate fatigue mechanical properties of structural steel under cyclic loading. For this purpose, several representative analytical approaches were introduced to estimate the basic mechanical properties including Young’s modulus and indentation hardness from the characteristics of the loading/unloading curves.

Fatigue curve presents the relation between stress (mean stress, maximum stress or stress amplitude) and the number of stress cycles till a machine element is completely broken. This curve is served as the important basis of design as well as lifetime prediction for machine elements. In order to create a fatigue curve, the traditional fatigue test method is applied to specimens using a cyclic stress with constant amplitude.

In the past few decades and up to now, the fossil energy has exerted tremendous impacts on human environments and gives rise to greenhouse effects while the wind power, especially in offshore region, is an attractive renewable energy resource. For offshore fixed wind turbine, stronger foundation like jacket structure has a good applicability for deeper water depth.

This paper presents an energy-based low-cycle fatigue criterion that can be used in analyzing and designing structures made from shape memory alloys (SMAs) subjected to cyclic loading. Experimentally, a response similar to plastic shakedown is observed: during the first cycles the stress-strain curve shows a hysteresis loop which evolves during the first few cycles before stabilizing.
