This study was conducted to compare the genetic gain per sow per year of Duroc pigs in twelve scenarios. These scenarios were based on the number of traits used such as average daily gain (ADG), feed conversion ratio (FCR), intramuscular fat content (IMF) and were also based on the number of records of phenotype for these traits from the individual animal and its relatives.

Quantifying the genetic parameters of feed efficiency in juvenile Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus
Improving feed efficiency in fish is crucial at the economic, social and environmental levels with respect to developing a more sustainable aquaculture. The important contribution of genetic improvement to achieve this goal has been hampered by the lack of accurate basic information on the genetic parameters of feed efficiency in fish.

Selection for feed efficiency is one of the best ways to decrease poultry production costs and environ‑ mental impacts. While literature on its genetic determinism is abundant, it is limited to one or a few periodic values over the animals’ lifespans.

Improving feed efficiency (FE) is a major challenge in pig production. This complex trait is characterized by a high variability. Therefore, the identification of predictors of FE may be a relevant strategy to reduce phenotyping efforts in breeding and selection programs.

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the ameliorative effects of Curcuma longa rhizome powder (1%) in induced aflatoxicosis in broiler chicken. In this study, commercially available broiler chickens of Vencobb strain were reared from day one to forty two days in the deep litter system of management and the birds were divided into three groups. Normal feed tested free of aflatoxin (AF), was given to the control (Group1). Aflatoxin (1 ppm) was supplemented with the feed to Group 2 and Curcuma longa (1%) + AF was supplemented with the feed to Group 3.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the production performance of improved varieties like Gramapriya and Vanaraja under field condition in intensive system of rearing. Both the breeds were evaluated for production performance parameters like weekly body weight, feed consumption and feed conversion ratio from 0 to 8 weeks of age. Vanaraja birds showed significantly higher body weight than Gramapriya from 1 to 8 weeks of age. Feed consumption and feed conversion ratio showed no significant difference between the birds.

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of selective breeding of Japanese quails for improvement of performance. A total of 2765 quails were procured from Poultry Experimental Station as baseline population based on their body weight. Out of which 1850 quails with higher body weights were selected as parents to produce 1200 progeny quail chicks. The overall growth performance such as body weight, body weight gain and feed conversion ratio parameters were recorded weekly intervals till the birds attain six weeks of age, sex wise.

The aim of this study was to determine the selection of bedding material used in broiler birds during the rearing period. Total 72 broiler chicks of IBL-80 were used on a completely randomized design in four treatments of deep litter materials i.e. wheat straw, rice husk, mustard stalk and sand. This study includes four treatments along with three replicates and each replicate consists of 18 birds.

Eighteen Murrah buffalo heifers were randomly distributed into three treatment groups each having six heifers on the basis of age and body weight i.e. T1 (control group, fed with conventional ration), T2 (fish meal supplementation by replacing conventional concentrate) and T3 (with 10 g commercial bypass Lysine per animal per day + 2 g commercial bypass Methionine per animal per day) for 90 days. The amount of concentrate mixture was given to each group in such a way that the experimental rations remain iso-proteinaceous.

Atrial was conducted to investigate the effect of butyric acid on the growth performance and immune response in broiler chicken. 600 day- old broiler chicks were allocated into 4 dietary groups (0, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4 % butyric acid) with 6 replicates each. Growth performance parameters viz., weekly body weight, feed intake and feed conversion ratio were recorded. Immune response in terms of antibody titer against New castles disease virus, Infectious bursal disease virus and weight of immune organs on day 21 and 42 were measured.
