  • Phenotypic characterization of Nandidurga goats was conducted in its breeding tract. A total of 17 flocks were surveyed in 8 villages of Challakere and Chitradurga talukas of Chitradurga district. The observed flock size was 25-30 with 2-3 bucks, 12-14 does and about 10-12 kids. Smaller flocks were generally housed in the part of the residence, whereas the larger flocks (30-40 goats) were housed separately. Usually the goat sheds were of open type with a thatched/ iron sheet roof inside it and the area was guarded by some locally available materials.

  • A rare case of caprine theileriosis is described and discussed in this report. A three years old female non-descript, goat was brought to the Small Ruminant Care Unit, Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal with the history of anorexia, and prostation.   • Serum samples from 126 clinically ailing goats showing signs like anorexia, fever, oligolactia, mastitis, icteric mucous membranes and abortion from different villages of Navsari, Surat, Tapi and Valsad districts of South Gujarat were examined for antileptospiral antibodies by microscopic agglutination test (MAT) using 17 serovars. Among screened goats, seropositivity was found to be 14.29 %. Seroreactivity was noted against serovars Hardjo, Canicola, Pomona, Pyrogenes, Bankinang, Grippotyphosa, Patoc1 and Australis. Female goats showed comparatively higher seropositivity than male goats.

  • The present case report is about foot rot in an adult female goat clinically manifested in the form of moistened hoof, showed sign of sloughing off, spread foul smelling and pus oozing necrotic pododermatitis resulting in non-weight bearing lameness in right forelimb.   • Two three month old female non descriptive kids were presented to Pudupalayam Veterinary dispensary, Department of Animal husbandry, Erode, Tamil Nadu with history of anorexia, generalized alopecia and slight throat enlargement during the month of May 2016.   • A seven year old female goat weighing 33 kg was presented with history of ingestion of unknown of Urea fertilizer before half an hour. Clinically animal was active and physiological parameters like rectal temperature and respiration rates were within normal range. Tachycardia and mild bloat with reduced rumen motility was also noted. The goat was given Inj. Normal Saline@ 25ml/kg body weight along with Inj. Dexamethasone@ 2mg/kg, Inj.   • The study was conducted in female Black Bengal goat to investigate the effect of non hormonal factors on reproductive efficiency. Female kids of three months of age were placed in three groups with five numbers in each group; 1st TG with supplementary nutrition and a buck, 2nd TG with supplementary nutrition and 3rd TG as control. Due to permanent exposure of buck and good plane of nutrition, the animals under TG 1 attained puberty significantly (P0.05) variation in gestational length indicated non-hormonal factors had no effect on length of gestation.

  • The study was carried out to assess the status of Mycoplasmosis in goats by serology, of Mycoplasma spp. from suspected and apparently normal goats and to assess the epidemiological risk factors associated with Mycoplasmosis and economic impact of Mycoplasmosis in organised and unorganised goat farms present in North West Agroclimatic zone of Tamil nadu.   • The present study was conducted in all the six different agro-climatic zones of Punjab state to know about demographic profile parameters (age, sex, education, main occupation, family size, family type, land holdings and category) of farmers engaged in goat farming.   • An adult female goat was presented for the post-mortem examination to the Department of Veterinary Pathology, College of Veterinary Science & A.H., Anjora, Durg, Chhattisgarh. The animal had emaciated body, pale mucous membranes with the history of anorexia and loss of body weight. Upon necropsy, the internal organs were found extremely pale, which was suggestive of anaemia. Liver of the animal was hemorrhagic and enlarged.
