The objectives of this study were to identify promising rice genotypes and evaluate the genetic variance and effectiveness of selection of the rice varieties for several yield attributing traits. A varietal trial of fifteen rice genotypes was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications in a farmer’s field in Sundarbazar, Lamjung, Nepal during the rainy season of 2018.

A total of 27 cotton Gossypium hirsutum genotypes were field evaluated during 2018-19 at Regional Agricultural Research station Nandyal under AICRP-Cotton programme for their reaction towards sucking pests, leaf hopper Amrasca devastans Distant in particular and bollworms. Results revealed that all the test genotypes were moderately tolerant towards sucking pest particularly leaf hoppers and exhibited below economic threshold level populations but among them, genotype CNH-2052 had recorded lowest leafhopper population of 2.

Increasing seed yield and oil content is one of the most important goals in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) breeding programs. The aim of any plant breeder includes selection from natural population or artificially developed for one or several characters. In the present investigation, twenty sunflower hybrids were evaluated for various parameters under field conditions to estimate genetic parameters, correlation coefficient and path analysis.

Field study has been conducted at Horticultural College and Research Institute, Periyakulam for evaluating the genetic variability and association among characters during the year 2011-12. The phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was higher than genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) for all the eight characters studied.

Heterosis and combining ability evaluation for yield, quality, and fruit fly resistance in muskmelon
The objective of this study was to breed muskmelon hybrids possessing higher TSS, flesh, and rind thickness, early and total yields; lower seed cavity; and resistance to fruit fly. Eight genetically diverse parents viz., Kesar, exotic collections (EC-2, EC-3, EC-4, EC-5), and indigenous collections (GP-210, GP-211, GP-141) were crossed in a diallel fashion excluding reciprocals. The resulting 28 F1's were evaluated with their parents in completely randomized block design with three replications under open field conditions.

One hundred twenty genotypes of field pea were evaluated with four check varieties to assess genetic divergence for grain yield and its contributing traits. Significant differences among all the genotypes were recorded for all the characters studied except number of primary branches per plant. All the genotypes were grouped into twelve different nonoverlapping clusters by Non-hierarchical Euclidean cluster analysis on the basis of D2 values. The genotypes of cluster I had highest mean value (20.585g) for 100 seed weight.

One hundred twenty field pea (Pisum sativum L. var. arvense) genotypes were evaluated with four check varieties viz., Ambika, Rachna, HFP 8909 and HUDP 15 to assess the genetic variability, association of different yield traits and direct & indirect effects of these traits on seed yield. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed significant differences among all the genotypes for majority of the traits except number of primary branches per plant. The genotypes showed moderate to high level of genotypic coefficient of variance (GCV) and phenotypic coefficient of variance (PCV).

The present study was carried out to understand the extent of morphological and molecular variability between cultivated finger millet genotypes of Indian and African origin and weedy E. coracana and E. africana genotypes. A total of 28 genotypes representing cultivated varieties (E. coracana) from India and Africa, wild species (E. africana) and weedy types of E. coracana were grown in field and scored for 23 morphological traits. The African cultivated types were distinct from Indian types for many morphological traits.
