  • The active methanol extracts were successively partitioned with organic solvents such n-hexane, ethyl acetate and butanol to yield organic layers. Among of the resulting organic layers, n-hexane and ethyl acetate layers of the two plants displayed effective inhibition against various filamentous fungal and bacterial growth. Through bioassay guided isolation, 1,8 dihydroxy anthraquinones and their derivatives were isolated from those bioactive layers using silica gel, reverse phase and sephadex LH20 column chromatography.

  • Aspergillus fumigatus has to cope with a combination of several stress types while colonizing the human body. A functional interplay between these different stress responses can increase the chances of survival for this opportunistic human pathogen during the invasion of its host. In this study, we shed light on how the H2O2-induced oxidative stress response depends on the iron available to this filamentous fungus, using transcriptomic analysis, proteomic profiles, and growth assays.

  • Filamentous fungi have evolved to succeed in nature by efficient growth and degradation of substrates, but also due to the production of secondary metabolites including mycotoxins. For Trichoderma reesei, as a biotechnological workhorse for homologous and heterologous protein production, secondary metabolite secretion is of particular importance for industrial application.

  • Changes in cell shape and plasticity in cytoskeletal dynamics are critically involved in cell adhesion, migration, invasion and the overall process of metastasis. Previous work in our laboratory demonstrated that the synthetic steroid mifepristone inhibited the growth of highly metastatic cancer cells, while simultaneously causing striking changes in cellular morphology.

  • Physiological and biochemical variation have been investigated under UVB stress on cyanobacterium Spirulina platensis. Morphological examinations showed significant change in terms of granulation, pigmentation, both apical and terminal end of filaments, showing altered emission intensity of pigment and changes in morphological structure of sheath in UV B treated as compared to untreated counterpart could observed respectively by bright field, fluorescent and scanning electron microscopy. • A 3-year-old buffalo with a history of 3 months old proliferative overgrowth in the left nostril occluding whole nostril was presented in Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex. There was laboured breathing; however, the clinical parameters were found within normal range. The growth was removed surgically and tissue was processed for cytology and histopathology. Grossly, the cut surface of the growth appeared “creamish white with multifocal pale yellow areas of calcification.” Impression smear revealed abundant neutrophils and macrophages engulfing bacteria.

  • Morphological transformation of pathogenic fungi is an important factor contributing in pathogenicity. Sporothrix schenckii is a dimorphic fungus, capable of transforming from filamentous form to yeast form in presence of nutritional factors and environmental conditions. This is very much essential for identification to establish definitive diagnosis of sporotrichosis in-vitro. A six times repeated successive subculture of a standard filamentous S.

  • Feeding is the most important factor in silkworm rearing, as it has a direct impact on growth and development of worms. Silkworm requires feed five times a day at an interval of five hours. However, the rearers of J&K state feed the worms two times only, resulting in lower cocoon yield. Feeding of quality mulberry leaves has a great impact on biology and physiology of silkworm Bombyx mori L. The study revealed 3 feedings per day was statistically at par with 4 feedings in terms of various parameters including larval survival percentage i.e. 93.50 ± 0.76 for 3 feedings and 95.00 ± 0.

  • In the additive RP processes, photopolymer systems are based on suc- cessively depositing thin layers of a liquid resin, which are then solidi- fied by exposure to a specific wavelengths of light. Thermoplastic sys- tems are based on procedures for successively melting and fusing solid filaments or beads of wax or plastic in layers, which harden in the air to form the finished object. Some systems form layers by applying adhe- sives or binders to materials such as paper, plastic powder, or coated ceramic beads to bond them.

  • Propionate is used to protect bread and animal feed from moulds. The mode of action of this short-chain fatty acid was studied usingAspergillus nidulansas a model organism. The filamentous fungus is able to grow slowly on propio-nate, which is oxidized to acetyl-CoA via propionyl-CoA, methylcitrate and pyruvate. Propionate inhibits growth of A. nidulanson glucose but not on acetate; the latter was shown to inhibit propionate oxidation.
