This paper proposes regression models to investigate the impact of ESG scores and other factors on foreign ownership in Vietnamese listed firms. ESG scores, as a valuable tool for measuring a firm's environmental, social, and governance performance, provide foreign investors with insights into investment risks and potential, enabling them to determine optimal ownership levels for maximising returns.

Despite an increase in governments' demand for private participation in infrastructure, Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) have received low engagement from the private sector in the task of bridging infrastructure gaps in emerging markets. Previous literature in the field mainly focuses on the effects of PPPs from the governments' perspective and it is inconclusive in its examination of the advantages and disadvantages of the private sector's participation.

The second essay examines the effect of banking system reform, which is defined by the presence of foreign banks, on investment-cash flow relation in a context of a small transition economy. I find evidence that the presence of foreign banks in Vietnam results in decreasing in firm’s dependence on local banks and has changed their financial constraint. Company investments are less reliant on internal cash flow in the post reform period.

The thesis provides theoretical findings that the application of carbon taxation has the negative effect that lowering the investment level of the firm, however, at the same time, it also has the positive effect of restricting investors with low technology level and encouraging investors with higher technology level at the same carbon tax rate. Thus, if the carbon tax is used as a regulatory tool, the government may develop policies that will encourage high-tech investors leading to the higher quality of foreign investment in Vietnam.

Human Capital Investments and Interregional Wage Differences in a Southeast Asian Country Point estimates of the choice-peer group interaction are almost uniformly negative, suggesting that effectiveness sorting is less complete in high-choice than in low-choice markets. These estimates are imprecise, however, and most cannot reject a zero effect.

As more and more firms start to do business internationally, multinational rivalry1 has naturally emerged as a field of interest among researchers in different disciplines (Ghoshal, 1987). Consequently, a large body of work has explored topics such as market entry (Buckley & Casson, 1998; Davis, Desai, & Francis, 2000), foreign direct investment (FDI) (Graham, 1990; Knickerbocker, 1973) and technology diffusion (Gupta & Govindarajan, 2000; Kim & Kogut, 1996) of multinational enterprises (MNEs).
