  • Hydroacoustic surveys are one of the prime methods to assess the commercially top-ranked small pelagic stocks. The method relies on acoustic scattering from a fish, which is largely controlled by the size and morphology of the swimbladder. In this study, the changes in the size of the European anchovy swimbladder sampled in the Black Sea were investigated. Ventral cross-sectional area (by photographing the ventrally dissected fish) and volume (by dorsal and lateral X-raying) of the swimbladders were estimated.

  • This study evaluates the Black Sea anchovy population infected by parasitic Ascaridoid Nematode larva in the Southern Black Sea. It assesses the larva’s effect on fish body condition, energy stored in the body, and anchovy growth. For this, anchovies sampled on July 10–31, 2018, from 30 different stations were examined, and 11.8% of the 825 anchovies were found infected. The observed infection rate was higher on the western side of the study area, suggesting that this rate may be used as a biomarker for the western stock.

  • Captive animal populations, be it for food production or conservation programmes, are often maintained at densities far beyond those in natural environments, which can have profound effects on behaviour, immune and stress levels, and ultimately welfare. How such alterations impact transcriptional responses to pathogen infection is a ‘different kettle of fish’ and remains poorly understood.

  • The experiment was conducted from 28/09/16 to 20/06/17 in nine earthen ponds of 0.8 ha (3 no. ponds), 1.8 ha (3 no. ponds) & 0.4 ha (3 no. ponds) of three different villages of Angul district. The aim of this study is to assess the Growth & Economic parameters of stunted yearling (IMC) culture technique by multiple stocking and harvesting method. In the first phase farmers training was organized among a group of 25 farmers for proper dissemination of technology in different aspects of Pisciculture viz.

  • The study was carried out with an objective to assess the technology of enhancement of fish production by incorporating Minor Carp Sps. in Composite fish culture system. The experiment was conducted for ten months from June, 2018 to March, 2019 in nine earthen ponds of 0.3 ha (3 no. ponds), 0.4 ha (3 no. ponds) & 0.5 ha (3 no. ponds) of three different villages of Angul district. In the first phase Pre-stocking pond preparation methods are followed i.e.

  • The exploited wild stocks should be confessed to biodiversity and genomic study to find out genetic variation and identification of fish stocks with reference to morphological, biological and physiological traits. Transcription reveals that transfer of DNA to mRNA. Translation exposes that transfer of mRNA to protein. These genetic changes can be assessed by several gene expression techniques which pave to identify the particular organisms upto species level which helps to find out native/exotic species abundance.

  • The earliest stone tools were crude, being little more than a fractured rock. In the Acheulian era, beginning approximately 1.65 million years ago, methods of working these stone into specific shapes, such as hand axes emerged. The Middle Paleolithic, approximately 300,000 years ago, saw the introduction of the prepared-core technique, where multiple blades could be rapidly formed from a single core stone.

  • A robust body of literature details reproductive effects in fish, amphibians, and reptiles related to exposure to endocrine disruptors. Evidence of these effects has also been seen in wild mammals such as polar bears and seals. Environmental exposure assessments and wildlife, laboratory and epidemiologic studies show exposure to low-level environmental contaminants, such as pesticides and other chemicals, subtly undermines the ability to reproduce.

  • An alarm system is composed of three primary elements: sensors, controls and annunciation. Sensors consist of switches, motion detectors, sound or vibration detectors and other devices that are designed to “sense” the presence of an intruder, either the point of entry or when he moves within the residence Sensors can also take the form of buttons, that the occupant uses to activate a duress alarm. Controls consist of a panel and a keypad into which a code number that arms or disarms the system is entered.

  • This work is essentially orientated to present an introduction to the mathematical models applied to fisheries stock assessment. There are several types of courses about the methods used in fish stock assessment. One type considers practical application as the main aspect of the course, including the use of computer programs. The theoretical aspects are referred to and treated as complementary aspects. A second type is mainly concerned with the theoretical aspects of the most used models.

  • In this work, the second type was adopted and exercises were prepared to be solved in a worksheet (Microsoft Excel). The table of contents indicates the exercises corresponding to each subject. This manual is the result of a series of courses on Fish Stock Assessment held in the following places. Portugal : Instituto de Investigação das Pescas e do Mar – IPIMAR (ex-INIP) in Lisbon, Faculdade de Ciências de Lisboa, University of Algarve and Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas de Abel Salazar in Oporto.

  • Rai & Tripathi (2009a) added that most metals in aquatic environment associated with particulate matter, then settled and accumulated in the bed sediments. The accumulation of contaminant in the bed sediments and the remobilization of contaminant are the most important mechanisms of contaminant in an aquatic ecosystem regulation. Furthermore, under certain circumstances such as deficit in dissolved oxygen or decreased in pH, the bed sediments can be another source of secondary water pollution when the heavy metals from bed sediments are released....
