Net blotch caused by Pyrenophra teres f. teres is a major foliar disease of barley. Infection can result in significant yield losses of susceptible cultivars of up to 40%. Of the two forms of net blotch (P. teres f. teres and P. teres f. maculata), P. teres f. teres (net form of net blotch) is the dominant one in Russia.

The ascomycete fungus Zymoseptoria tritici (synonyms: Mycosphaerella graminicola, Septoria tritici) is a major pathogen of wheat that causes the economically important foliar disease Septoria tritici blotch. Despite its importance as a pathogen, little is known about the reaction of this fungus to light.

Characterization and identification of Alternaria spp. causing foliar blight and black rot in carrot
Carrot (Daucus carota L.) of plant family Apiaceae is a most popular and commonly used vegetable worldwide because of its multiple uses. This crop suffers greatly due to a number of diseases from seedling to maturity stage in which the diseases caused by Alternaria spp. are one of them. Two types of diseases occur in serious farm on this carrot crop, one is the Alternaria leaf (foliar) blight caused by Alternaria dauci and the other one, Alternaria black rot in which two species, Alternaria radicina and A. carotiincultae are involved in the causation of this disease.

Early blight is the most devastating disease of tomato it is caused by pathogens i.e. Alternaria solani. In tropical and subtropical countries it creates hazardous effect. It is also a common problem in United Kingdom, Australia, India, Nepal and United States. It is one of the most common foliar diseases of tomatoes. The disease can occur over a wide range of climatic conditions, but is most prominent in areas with heavy dew, rainfall and high relative humidity. Every year sever disease appears in north India.

Pulses are high value crops and generally greater attention is paid to protect them against diseases caused by microbial pathogens after harvest during storage. An extensive field survey was conducted in 203 Blocks of 31 districts comprising three agro-climatic zones of Uttar Pradesh during 2011-12 and 2012-13 to find out the status of soil borne pathogens and bioagents in major pulse growing areas.

A field study was conducted during Kharif 2014 and Kharif 2015 to evaluate the bioefficacy of fungicides (both solo and combination products) against stem rot disease of paddy. Different fungicides were tested either as seed treatment (ST), seedling dip (SD), foliar spray (FS) or in combinations. Disease was measured in 0-9 standard evaluation scale and scores were transformed into percent disease index (PDI). PDI of Kharif 2014 and Kharif 2015 were pooled to get the mean PDI.

Leaf spot disease (Alternaria alternata) causes severe foliar damage to niger crop. The isolates of A.alternata were collected from different location and tested for their variability in term of morphological, cultural and pathological variation viz., growth rate, colony colour, aerial mycelium colour, growth pattern, sporulation, conidial size, conidial sepation. In case of growth rate Aa1 and Aa2 was observed very fast growing it cover 70- 73 mm growth within 7 days of inoculation on PDA media.

Cowpea is an important leguminous vegetable crop usually grown during Pre-kharif, Kharif and Rabi season under West Bengal condition. Now days this crop is severely affected due to biotic stress. Seven foliar pathogens namely Alternaria alternata, Colletotrichum capsici, Corynespora cassicola, Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium ciceri, Sclerotium rolfsii and Curvularia lunata were isolated from the diseased cowpea crop in Jaguli Instructional farm of BCKV.

The results of the study revealed thaturea was most effective in inhibiting the fungal growth at all the tested concentration. It was also found that soluble NPK and Potassium nitrate promoted the fungal growth at all the concentration. Among biorationals, bromonitropropanol gave the highest mycelial inhibition (73.72%), while sodium and potassium bicarbonates at lower concentration promoted the fungal growth, but inhibited the growth at higher concentration.

Quince (Cydonia oblonga) is a hardy tree and very less susceptible to diseases. Therefore, used as a dwarfing rootstock for pear, depending on the scion desired and characteristics of the production area. Algal leaf spot is a foliar disease most commonly seen in warm humid climate or in greenhouse conditions. The spots were circular or blotchy in shape, 1-5mm in size and were somewhat raised from the plant surface. The edges of the spots were wavy or feathered.

Cabbage is one of the most widely cultivated vegetables of the temperate zone. Cabbage is susceptible to many foliar and soil borne diseases, among the soilborne fungal diseases of cabbage, white head rot disease caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is a potential threat to cabbage production and limits the crop cultivation and it is also associated with root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita).

An experiment was conducted to evaluate calcium chloride (CaCl2) as inducers in induce resistance against late blight of potato caused by Phytophthora infestans. Two per cent CaCl2 used in 9 treatments for different time durations (1/2h, 1h, 2h, 4h, 6h, 8h, 10h, 12h and 0h) and foliar spray and resulted that CaCl2 have ability to reduce disease severity from 22.65 to 48.00 per cent against 57.00 per cent in case of control.

Powdery mildew caused by Golovinomyces cichoracearum (DC.) V.P. Heluta (formerly Erysiphe cichoracearum) is a common foliar disease on senescing leaves of cultivated sunflower in warmer regions of the world. In India, the powdery mildew disease is becoming major constraint in cultivation of sunflower crop especially during post rainy season. Screening of the sunflower germplasm lines against the disease would be of a great help to identify the resistance source.

Zinniae is an important flower specie cultivated in India as well as in Kashmir valley. An unusual disease outbreak was observed in the nursery beds of Zinniae elegans. During ascertaining the cause of the disease a new pathogen Alternaria zinniae not previously reported from this region was found infecting the plants causing moderate to heavy blight. During the study Alternaria zinniae infecting Zinniae sp. was reported first time in the valley of Kashmir.

The present experiment was conducted to study correlation for yield and yield contributing characters in BC1F1 generation derived from three crosses of groundnut viz., CO 7 × GPBD 4, TMV 2 × GPBD 4 and TMV (Gn) 13 × GPBD 4. Correlation analysis indicated that kernel yield per plant was significant and positively associated with number of pods per plant, hundred pod weight, hundred kernel weight, shell weight, shelling out-turn and pod yield per plant for all the three crosses.
