Food processing training programmes

Training is an essential aspect of development of any skill in individuals. The present endeavour was designed to assess the skill development among trainees participated in the training related to food processing rendered by KVK, Kota under RKVY (Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yogana), Agriculture University, Kota. The objectives were to identify the quality of training programmes and skill development among trainees.

In rural India, the percentage of women who depend on agriculture for their livelihood is as high as 84%.Apart from participation in actual cultivation; women participate in various forms of processing and marketing of agricultural produce. Women accounted for 93% of total employment in dairy production. To begin with training programmes were started to self-help groups (SHG) on labour saving equipment, processing, value addition and storage of grains followed by model processing units establishment in rural areas. Workshops and melas were also conducted for empowerment of women in SHGs.

Soybean (Glycine max), otherwise known as a ‘miracle crop’ with over 40 per cent protein and 20 per cent oil, minerals and vitamins for human food originated in China. Soy foods are nutritious, economical and provide many health benefits. A number of processed soya products are available in the market. They include Soya milk, Soya flour, Soya curd and Tofu (Soya Paneer). Besides its nutritive quality, functional properties of Soy Protein have opened avenues for producing new products and improving the quality of existing standard food products.

To uplift the livelihood and financial conditions of the rural women value addition of minor millets can offer tremendous opportunity not only to income rather it increase national productivity and generates employment but also helps to develop economic independence and personal and social upliftment. Smt. Rathnamma is one such example who is from a small village named Gundamanatta in Srinivaspur Taluk of Kolar district. We have formed “Vaibhav Siridhanya Swasahaya Sanga” for processing of Minor Millets.
