Freshwater aquaculture has played key roles in the livelihood development of farm households in the Red River Delta through freshwater fish ponds, rice-and-fish, and marine cage culture. This study aimed to analyze the marketing channels of freshwater aquaculture fish in Hai Duong province.

Aquaculture, also known as aquafarming, is the farming of aquatic organisms such as fish, crustaceans, molluscs and aquatic plants.[1][2] Aquaculture involves cultivating freshwater and saltwater populations under controlled conditions, and can be contrasted with commercial fishing, which is the harvesting of wild fish.[3] Mariculture refers to aquaculture practiced in marine environments and in underwater habitats.

Streptococcal disease caused by Streptococcus iniae is without doubt one of the major bacterial diseases in fish. It has been reported to cause significant mortality in more than 12 different aquaculture species. Its distribution is worldwide in both freshwater and marine environments. The annual impact to aquaculture has been estimated to be over US$100 million. However, in the past, very few reports have described its presence in Asia.
