  • The article numerically simulates the vibration reduction of a spur gear transmission by using damping particles placed in technological holes designed on the gear itself. The vibration of the gear transmission is reduced based on friction and inelastic collision which eliminates the vibrational energy by the loss during the motion of the damping particles within the technological holes.

  • Biological superhydrophobic surfaces are relatively common in nature. Inspired by the superhydrophobic feature, plentiful materials with hydrophobic surfaces have been fabricated for various purposes such as anticorrosion, anti-icing, self-cleaning, friction reduction, and oil-water separation.

  • Lateral tibial split fractures (LTSF) usually require surgical therapy with screw or plate osteosynthesis. Excellent anatomical reduction of the fracture is thereby essential to avoid post-traumatic osteoarthritis. In clinical practice, a gap and step of 2 mm have been propagated as maximum tolerable limit.

  • In this paper, we develop a dynamic general equilibrium model, where agents are heterogeneous in terms of wealth and entrepreneurial talent, to study the effects of financial inclusion. From our structural analytical framework, we obtain some important properties, which are helpful to understand the effect of financial inclusion in capital allocation and poverty reduction. On the basis of this framework, one could make a quantitative evaluation of the policy impact of financial inclusion by calibrating the model with data of different countries.

  • The use of polymeric materials (PMs) and polymeric films (PMFs) has increased in medicine and dentistry. This increasing interest is attributed to not only the excellent surfaces of PMs and PMFs but also their desired mechanical and biological properties, low production cost, and ease in processing, allowing them to be tailored for a wide range of applications. Specifically, PMs and PMFs are used in dentistry for their antimicrobial, drug delivery properties; in preventive, restorative and regenerative therapies; and for corrosion and friction reduction.

  • This paper analyzes the effect of temperature on steel fibers pull-out mechanism from a high strength concrete matrix and its contribution to the residual mechanical behavior of Steel Fiber Reinforced High Strength Concrete (SFRHSC). Pull-out tests of straight and hooked end fibers and uniaxial tension tests on the fiber filaments exposed to room and high temperature (300 C, 375 C and 475 C) were performed. Additionally, two SFRHSC incorporating 30 kg/m3 and 60 kg/m3 of hooked end steel fibers and a plain High Strength Concrete (HSC) exposed to the same temperatures were studied.

  • The method of skin frictional resistant reduction is injecting air flows to creating small bubbles into the turbulent boundary layer developing on the ship skin. Research found that this method may reduce ship energy consumption. This method could be applied to large ships with not high speed movement. A model ship that is scaled 1/33 of a 20000 ton cargo ship had been created for carrying out experiment in calm water and in regular wave conditions.

  • The most important function of lubricants is the reduction of friction and wear and in some cases, the relative movement of two bearing surfaces is only possible if a lubricant is present. In times when saving energy and resources and cutting emission have become central environmental matters, lubricants are increasingly attracting public awareness. Scientific research has shown that 0.4% of gross domestic product could be saved in terms of energy in Western industrialized countries if current tribological knowledge, i.e.

  • The phenomenon of friction has been part of daily life since the beginning of human existence. It is no surprise that some of the earliest human activities involved the reduction of friction when it was wasteful, or the use of friction when it could be beneficial. The first category includes the use of vegetable oils and animal fats as lubricants, as well as the use of rolling motion to take advantage of the resulting low resistance to movement.
