  • This paper does the comparative evaluation of automated and non-automated fertigation systems inside the poly house. The main crop growth parameters like height of the plant, days to first flowering, days to 50 percentage flowering, days to initial budding, days to first harvest and leaf area index were observed. Yield parameters viz. size of the fruit, number of fruits harvested per plant and average yield were recorded during the study. Values of all these parameters were found to be better for the crops grown inside the polyhouse with automated fertigation compared to the other.

  • The extensive survey was made during year 2011 to 2012 in different blocks of Coimbatore, Erode, Perambalur, Salem and Tirupur districts of Tamil Nadu on the incidence of papaya mealybug, P. marginatus on tapioca. Among the ninety five farmer’s holdings observed, none of the field was free from the pest incidence. The incidence ranged from 2 to 100 per cent. All the plant parts were covered with mealybugs with crinkling of leaves and leaves and fruits covered with honey dew and sooty mold and were started drying.

  • The present study was carried out during Late kharif, 2016 at College of Horticulture, Anantharajupeta. The experiment was conducted with an objective to identify divergent genotypes to be used as donor parents in crop improvement. Thirty-two genotypes along with two checks were evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications and the data on 25 yield and yield attributing traits were recorded. The analysis of variance revealed significant differences among all genotypes indicating the presence of sufficient amount of variability for the characters studied.

  • A field experiment was carried out during Rabi 2016 at College of Horticulture, Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University, Venkataramannagudem (A.P) to study the effect of intergeneric pollen on induction of parthenocarpy in watermelon. Among the intergeneric pollen studied, bottle gourd pollen was successfully induced parthenocarpy followed by bitter gourd pollen. However, minimum number of empty seeds (37.20) was recorded with ash gourd pollen. The lowest seed weight per fruit (1.60 g) was observed with bottle gourd pollen whereas maximum seed weight was recorded with control (17.99 g).

  • Combining ability analysis was carried out for earliness, fruit yield and its related traits in okra in a 6 × 6 full diallel fashion. Both general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) variances are highly significant for all the characters indicating the importance of additive and non-additive gene actions. The highest significant negative GCA effect for earliness were recorded by the parents Arka Anamika, Parbhani kranti and for fruit yield per plant the best general combiner were found to be Parbhani kranti.

  • Incidence of fruit fly and damage intensity in guava (Psidium guajava L.) in orchards of Eastern India, Ranchi were studied during rainy and winter season in 2013 and 2014 under ICAR-RCER. The observations were recorded on number of flowers and fruits per plants, indicated that flowers and fruit were higher in number in rainy season. However, the weights of fruits were high in winter season as compared to rainy. The number of fruits drop were recorded higher in rainy season about 7.72 % in normal planting and 8.85 % in high density planting in first year study (2013).
