This study aimed to assess lower limb strength and some related factors among older people with dementia examined and treated at the National Geriatric Hospital. Three-quarters of older dementia patients have impaired lower limb strength. Our results highlighted that diabetes, and geriatric syndromes such as malnutrition, high fall risk, dependence, and partial dependence were significantly associated with lower limb strength in older patients with dementia.

Lung cancer significantly impairs exercise capacity and health-related quality of life (HRQL). Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) has demonstrated positive effects on exercise capacity and HRQL in lung cancer patients. However, its impact on cardiopulmonary function needs further exploration. The aim of this study was to explore the effects of PR on cardiopulmonary function, exercise capacity and HRQL in patients with lung cancer.

Cancer cachexia is associated with impaired functional and nutritional status and worse clinical outcomes. Global Leadership Initiative in Malnutrition (GLIM) consensus recommended the application of GLIM criteria to diagnose malnutrition in patients with cachexia. However, few previous study has applied the GLIM criteria in patients with cancer cachexia.

Cystic fibrosis is the most common autosomal recessive genetic disease in Caucasians. It is caused by mutations in the CFTR gene, leading to poor hydration of mucus and impairment of the respiratory, digestive, and reproductive organ functions. Advancements in medical care have led to markedly increased longevity of patients with cystic fibrosis, but new complications have emerged, such as early onset of colorectal cancer.

Associations of low lung function with features of poor cardio-metabolic health have been reported. It is, however, unclear whether these co-morbidities reflect causal associations, shared genetic heritability or are confounded by environmental factors.

Age and obesity are dominant risk factors for several common cardiometabolic disorders, and both are known to impair adipose tissue function. However, the underlying cellular and genetic factors linking aging and obesity on adipose tissue function have remained elusive.

Ebook "Blood pressure and arterial wall mechanics in cardiovascular diseases" are related to blood pressure involving two different and complementary aspects: the role of arterial wall mechanics and the underlying mechanisms of risk involving left ventricular hypertrophy and the role of dietary salt excess on the development of cardiac and renal failure through structural and functional impairment.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 is a neurocutaneous genetic disorder caused by mutations in the NF1 gene, resulting in the formation of benign tumors called neurofibromas. The most common type of tumor seen in patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 is the slow-growing and benign neurofibroma, with a subtype called plexiform neurofibroma being particularly common and causing pain, functional impairment, and cosmetic disfigurement.

Gut microbiome has been linked to a regulatory role in cancer progression. However, whether broadspectrum antibiotics (ATB) associated gut microbiome dysbiosis contributes to an impaired T cell immune function, and ultimately promotes lung cancer metastasis is not well known.

First-line treatment of nonsquamous non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has undergone a paradigm shift to platinum combination therapy together with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). However, phase III studies of combinations of cytotoxic chemotherapy and ICIs have included only patients with maintained organ function, not those with renal impairment.
