  • In this study, hard wood cuttings of Hibiscus rosa-sinenis Cultivar Red Single were treated with nine different dose of gamma rays (1 to 5 k R) and ten different concentrations of EMS ranging from 0.1% to 1.0%. The results revealed that gradual reduction in survival of cuttings, shoot length, leaf length and leaf width with increase in dosage of gamma rays and EMS. However gamma rays treated plants showed significant gradual reduction in growth rate than the EMS treated plants. Based on probit analysis, LD50 (Lethal dose) value for gamma radiation and EMS have been fixed as 2.81 kR and 0.

The percentage of seed germination ranges from 0 per cent to 52 per cent with different does of gamma rays in butter bean variety KKL-1 as compared to 86 per cent control. The different in seed germination are statistically significant. The LD50 value was found at 10 kR for seed germination. The percentage of survival was 81 per cent in control while it are significant range from 0 per cent 100 kR to 48 per cent 10 kR of gamma rays in butter bean variety KKL-1.

  • The present investigation was conducted during the Kharif season of 2013, seeds of black gram [Vingo mungo (L.) Hepper] variety VBN 4 and ACM 07002 were exposed to gamma rays doses at 200, 250, 300 and 350 Gy and EMS (Ethyl Methane Sulphonate) doses at 20, 30 and 40 mM. Wide ranges of viable mutants were isolated in M2 and M3 generation. The mutational change in each quantitative trait can be large or small.

  • Mutagenic effectiveness and efficiency of gamma rays were studied in three genotypes of Indian mustard (two local cultivars and one improved variety). From the present study, it was suggested that the LD50 ranging from 1000 Gy (pollen sterility) to 1200 Gy or above (survival reduction) may be used for gamma ray treatment in Indian mustard. Five types of chlorophyll mutants were observed in the order of Albina> Chlorina=Viridis> Xantha=Alboviridis. The highest mutation frequency was recorded from 1000 Gy gamma ray treatment which was followed by 1200 Gy.

  • Gamma radiation is the most commonly used mutagen in plants as it causes a high frequency of induced mutations. It can be used to overcome the difficulties in papaya breeding to get true to type plantlets especially in dioecious varieties. An optimum dose is highly desired to produce the high frequency of mutations with minimum killing of treated individuals. Therefore, the present investigation was undertaken to determine the LD50 of gamma rays and effect of different dosages of gamma rays on morphological, physiochemical, biochemical parameters of papaya.

  • The aim of the present study was extended from obtaining information about the interaction of gamma rays with Makrofol DE 7-2 track detector to introduce the basis that can be used in concerning simple sensor for gamma irradiation and bio-engineering applications. Makrofol polymer samples were irradiated with 1.25 MeV 60Co gamma radiations at doses ranging from 20 to 1000 kG y. The modifications of irradiated samples so induced were analyzed using UV–vis spectrometry, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and the measurements of Vickers’ hardness.

  • In this study, an improved algorithm for n/g discrimination using a parameter, which is the ratio of the rise time to the pulse height, is proposed. The n/g discrimination performance of the algorithm is evaluated by applying it to 252Cf neutron signal separation from various gamma-ray exposure rate levels ranging 0.1e5 R/h. The performance is compared to that of the conventional pulse-height analysis method in terms of the gamma elimination ratio.

  • The effective reduction of background (1.04) by the copper mainly appeared in the energy range from X-ray up to 500 KeV, while for the total energy range the ratio is 1.01 relative to the lead only. In addition, a strong relation between the full-energy peak absolute efficiency and the detector well height was found using gamma-ray isotropic radiation point sources placed inside the detector well. The full-energy peak efficiency at a midpoint of the well (at 2.5 cm) is three times greater than that on the detector surface.
