In ebook "Applications of MALDI-TOF spectroscopy" some topics involve the principles and the applications of ISD. Typically, MALDI is coupled with time-of-flight (TOF) analyzers with rather high resolution and a good cost performance, therefore MALDI-TOF-MS has become a nice combination in MS analysis.

Propofol is a safe and effective intravenous anesthetic that is widely used for the induction and maintenance of anesthesia during surgery. However, the mechanism by which propofol exerts its anesthetic effect remains unknown. The rapid onset of phosphorylation modifications coincides with that of propofol anesthesia.

During maturation, spermatozoa acquire motility and fertilizing capacity as they transit through the epididymis. In recent years, two-dimensional gel electrophoresis has been employed in proteomics studies conducted in rat, boar and human. However, there has not been a complete information regarding the proteins associated with sperm maturation in the epididymis.

A new capillary electrophoresis method was developed for the simultaneous determination of dexpanthenol (DEX), lidocaine (LID), and mepyramine (MEP) in pharmaceutical preparations. The best results were obtained using 20 mM (pH 3.0) phosphate buffer as the background electrolyte. Separation was obtained using a fused-silica capillary (75 µm internal diameter, 50 cm total length, 41 cm effective length) and a potential of +30 kV at 20 ◦ C. Standards and samples were injected using a pressure injection at 50 mbar for 5 s and the analytes were monitored at a detection wavelength of 200 nm.

Crystallization processes of lipid matrices were characterized by X-ray diffractometry and differential scanning calorimetry. pDNA binding ability of SLNs and the stability of pDNA-SLN complexes with DNase I enzyme were also determined by gel electrophoresis. It was determined that all formulations became positively charged with DOTAP®R. They were able to bind DNA and were partially protective against enzyme degradation. Although additional studies are necessary, this study reveals the promising potential of this gene delivery system for gene therapy.

A series of novel positional oximes (2a–2d), O-methyl oxime ethers (3a–3d), and O-benzyl oxime ethers (4a–4d) were synthesized in high yields starting from their corresponding methyl 3-, 4-, 6-, and 13-keto tetradecanoates. The synthesized compounds were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-IR, mass, and elemental analyses for their structures and (E) /(Z) isomerizations. Their DNA binding abilities were investigated in vitro by agarose gel electrophoresis. The antibacterial and antifungal activities were tested also in vitro against eleven bacterial strains and three fungal strains.

In this study, a zinc(II) phthalocyanine compound (PcZn) substituted with octakis phenoxyacetamide was synthesized and characterized. Calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) was used to determine the DNA binding properties of the zinc(II) phthalocyanine compound. This interaction of CT-DNA with PcZn was investigated using electronic absorption spectra, emission spectroscopy, a thermal melting temperature study, cyclic voltammetry, and viscosity measurements in a Tris-HCl buffer solution at a pH of 7.2.
