Genetic divergence of maize genotypes
-
Thirty genotypes of maize were evaluated for genetic diversity using Mahalanobis D2 statistics for various morpho physiological traits during kharif, 2013. The data on 21 quantitative traits were recorded and on the basis of Mahalanobis’ D2 statistics, all the 30 genotypes of the present study were grouped into six clusters.

The genetic diversity of maize inbred lines were analyzed by using D2 statistics during kharif, 2015 in Randomized Block Design (RBD) at TCA, Dholi farm of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, Bihar, with eighteen inbred lines of maize derived from different maize populations. Results indicated that ANOVA for mean sum of squares due to inbred lines were significant for ten characters except for days to flowering, days to brown husk and girth of ears, indicating scope for selection of promising genotypes for yield improvement.

Seventy five maize genotypes were evaluated to study the genetic divergence under two drought stress conditions i.e. moderate stress and severe stress along with well watered conditions. The experiment was carried out at Maize Research Centre, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, during rabi 2011-12. The seventy five genotypes were grouped into nine distinct clusters. The cluster VII, cluster VIII and cluster VII were the largest and lowest genotypes were included in cluster II, cluster V and clusters V and IX under normal, moderate drought stress and severe drought stress conditions, respectively.
