This paper is an extension of our recent work that presents a two-scale design method of porosity-like materials using adaptive geometric components. The adaptive geometric components consist of two classes of geometric components: one describes the overall structure at the macrostructure and the other describes the structure of the material at the microstructures.

This paper presents a method for establishing the exact receptance function of a tapered axially functionally graded (AFG) beam with nonlinear ratios of properties using the Adomian method. In current papers, the Adomian method was applied for linearly tapered beams where the geometric series was used conveniently.

This article presents computational insights into the geometric and electronic structures of NbSi4 −/0 clusters using density functional theory and the CASSCF/CASPT2 method. The anionic and neutral ground states are identified as the 1A′ and 2A′ states, respectively, within a trigonal bipyramidal isomer where the Nb atom occupies the equatorial position. The adiabatic detachment energy for the transition from the anionic ground state 1A′ to the neutral ground state 2A′ is estimated to be 2.30 eV.

The geometric structure, stability, dissociation channel and magnetism of AgnCo clusters (n = 1–12) have been studied using density functional theory. The results show that the Co atom tends to choose the highest coordination position.

This study aims to use CFD analysis of CT scan data from the nasal cavities of a range of older Asian males to investigate the impact of geometric variations between older nasal cavities on the airflow structures and airconditioning capacity of the nasal cavity. Air flow mechanisms, heat transfer rates and humidification efficacy are analysed in order to arrive at a more precise understanding of the role of nasal geometry in the presentation of respiratory ailments.

The focus of this thesis was to study the chemotaxonomic relationship of selected southern Australian marine brown algae of the genera Cystophora and Sargassum. Consequently, this resulted in the isolation and structure elucidation of six new terpenoids from two southern Australian marine brown algae Cystophora moniliformis and Sargassum fallax together with 10 previously reported natural products. As a result of the re-isolation of these known secondary metabolites, updated and complete structural characterisation data could be provided for the first time for 7 of these compounds.

The main aims of this study are to: understand the phenomena of isolated mixing regions (IMRs) in Newtonian fluids agitated in mechanically stirred vessels, in particular, the formation of core torus, using experimental studies; investigate the behavior of IMRs structures by manipulating the operating variables such as impeller rotational speed and direction, as well as geometrical variables such as impeller types and baffle location; investigate the temporal chaotic mixing using different speed modulation protocols.

The investigation of magnetic field strength variations over subterranean layers may reveal their locations on Earth’s surface and provide physical and geometrical characteristics. Magnetic studies were carried out around Gölcük caldera lake using proton magnetometers to identify subsurface volcanic structures. The acquired data were inverted using four different edge detection algorithms such as analytic signal, tilt angle, theta map, horizontal gradient. Afterwards, the results were used to determine the locations of the anomalous structures.

The thesis will solve the following two basic objectives: Clarifying the effect of hydrodynamic and geometric factors on the current velocity due to wave at the dike toe by using rocks; Determining the formula to calculate the maximum flow velocity at the foot of the embankment (dike toe), then select the solution to design the structure of the foot protection of the embankment in both with or without roughness structures

To provide high shunt impendence with low power losses, an 81.25 MHz continuous wave (CW) radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) accelerator has been designed and machined as parts of the Low Energy Accelerator Facility (LEAF). In this paper, the mechanical structure and the main processing technology of the RFQ cavities are described according to the physical and geometric parameters requirements of the RFQ. The fabrication of the RFQ has been completed and the test results agree well with the design requirements.

This study simulated a control rod assembly (CRA), which is a part of reactor shutdown systems, in immersed and fluid flow conditions. The CRA was inserted into the reactor core within a predetermined time limit under normal and abnormal operating conditions, and the CRA (which consists of complex geometric shapes) drop behavior is numerically modeled for simulation.

In this paper we study the multifractal structure of Schramm’s SLE curves. We derive the values of the (average) spectrum of harmonic measure and prove Duplantier’s prediction for the multifractal spectrum of SLE curves. The spectrum can also be used to derive estimates of the dimension, Hölder exponent and other geometrical quantities. The SLE curves provide perhaps the only example of sets where the spectrum is non-trivial yet exactly computable.

Glycosylatedpolyenemacrolide antibiotics, as nystatins and amphotericins, are amphiphilic structures known to exert antifungal activity by disrupting the fungal cell membrane, leading to leakage of cellular materials, and cell death. This membrane disruption is strongly influenced by the presence and the exact nature of the membrane sterols.

The three-dimensional crystal structure of recombinant annexin Gh1 fromGossypium hirsutum(cotton fibre) has been determined and refined to the finalR-factor of 0.219 at the resolution of 2.1 A ˚ . This plant annexin consists of the typicalannexin fold and is similar to the previously solved bell pepper annexinAnx24(Ca32), but significant differences are seen when compared to the structure of nonplant annexins.

Given a compact four dimensional manifold, we prove existence of conformal metrics with constant Q-curvature under generic assumptions. The problem amounts to solving a fourth-order nonlinear elliptic equation with variational structure. Since the corresponding Euler functional is in general unbounded from above and from below, we employ topological methods and min-max schemes, jointly with the compactness result of [35]. 1.

This paper gives a quantitative version of Thurston’s hyperbolic Dehn surgery theorem. Applications include the first universal bounds on the number of nonhyperbolic Dehn fillings on a cusped hyperbolic 3-manifold, and estimates on the changes in volume and core geodesic length during hyperbolic Dehn filling. The proofs involve the construction of a family of hyperbolic conemanifold structures, using infinitesimal harmonic deformations and analysis of geometric limits.

This is the second in a series of three papers in which we initiate the study of very rough solutions to the initial value problem for the Einstein vacuum equations expressed relative to wave coordinates. By very rough we mean solutions which cannot be constructed by the classical techniques of energy estimates and Sobolev inequalities. In this paper we develop the geometric analysis of the Eikonal equation for microlocalized rough Einstein metrics. This is a crucial step in the derivation of the decay estimates needed in the first paper. ...

Inspired by Lorenz’ remarkable chaotic flow, we describe in this paper the structure of all C 1 robust transitive sets with singularities for flows on closed 3-manifolds: they are partially hyperbolic with volume-expanding central direction, and are either attractors or repellers. In particular, any C 1 robust attractor with singularities for flows on closed 3-manifolds always has an invariant foliation whose leaves are forward contracted by the flow, and has positive Lyapunov exponent at every orbit, showing that any C 1 robust attractor resembles a geometric Lorenz attractor. ...

One of the greatest challenges to confront an artist is drawing the human figure. Our bodies are infinitely complex yet intimately familiar, giving rise to a subject that is difficult to depict accurately yet judged incessantly. The human figure is almost overwhelmingly complex for the artist to draw. The human figure is an organic structure that defies geometric simplification. It is composed of bones, muscles, and organs, all of which are covered by a flexible layer of skin. The body has many moving parts that make it almost impossible to define as a shape. Within its skeleton are more...
