Canine atopic dermatitis (CAD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease triggered by allergic reactions involving IgE antibodies directed towards environmental allergens. We previously identified a ~1.5 Mb locus on canine chromosome 27 associated with CAD in German shepherd dogs (GSDs). Fine-mapping indicated association closest to the PKP2 gene encoding plakophilin 2.

Computed Tomography is an noninvasive imaging method for diagnosis of vertebral and spinal cord lesions in small animals. There are retrospectively evaluated CT studies at nine dogs presented at Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital, Chennai with various degrees of neurological deficit and suspected with vertebral or spinal cord lesions. Out of these eight dogs, Different breeds including five Labrador retriever, one Daushand, one German shepherd and one Non-descriptive breed. All the dogs reported with neurological deficit were male.

A male Dog, breed German Shepherd age 3yrs approximate was presented with the history of anorexia, weight loss, muscular weakness, depression, polydipsia, polyuria and bilateral peripheral lymphadenopathy at the hospital. The blood picture of the animal showed normal blood counts as well as normal LFT and KFT. On histopathological examination of the tumorous growth extracted from the lymph node clearly showed NonHodgkin’s Lymphoma that was surgically removed successfully.

A total of six German shepherd dogs were selected for Breeding Soundness Examination (BSE). Body condition score was evaluated on a scale of 1-9 and Testicular volume was measured by Vernier Caliper before semen collection. The method of semen collection was by digital manipulation. The biophysical and biochemical attributes of semen for GSD dogs was characterized. In GSD dogs, the testes were firm in texture and no other scrotal abnormality was noticed.

A 3-year-old male German Shepherd dog weighing 26 kg is presented to Referral Veterinary Polyclinic and Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, ICAR- IVRI, Izatnagar, with the history of reduced food intake, dullness, weakness in all limbs since 1 week, edema of the scrotum and all limbs since 3 days. Clinical examination revealed elevated rectal temperature104.30 F, tachycardia, increased respiratory rate, pale mucous membrane along with ticks over the body was noticed.

In the present study 86 number of skin scrapings were collected from various breeds like Labrador retriever (n=32), German shepherd (n=21), Spitz (n=9), Dacshund (n=16), Mastiff (n=5), Boxer (n=3) and age groups from 6 months to, above 3 year with characteristics ring like lesions, alopecia, irregular patches of hair loss. All the dogs were presented to teaching veterinary clinical complex, Odisha veterinary college from December 2018 to June 2019.On routine identification of fungus out of 86 number of skin scrappings it was revealed that arthospores were present in 54 number of samples.

In the present study 88 number of corneal swabs were collected from 8 different breeds of dog suffering from corneal diseases. All the dogs were presented to Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex of Odisha Veterinary College for treatment during the period from December 2018 to June 2019. The breeds consists of Non-descript (n=18), Pug (n=11), Labrador (n=10), German shepherd (n=12), Spitz (n=14), Golden retriever (n=10), Dalmatian (n=7), and Mastiff (n=6).

A six year old female German shepherd crossbred dog was reported with the history of snake bite by Russell’s viper, acute onset of oozing of blood from inner side of the oral cavity, oedematous face, congested conjunctival mucus membrane, restlessness and respiratory distress and signs of disseminated intravascular coagulation. Animal was treated with Polyvalent Snake Venom followed by supportive therapy of Tetanus Toxoid, Dexamethasone, Atropine Sulphate, and antibiotic combinations like ceftriaxone and metronidazole along with liver tonic.
