  • In this study, we collected and prepared ethanol extracts from 30 vegetable and fruit by-products. The extracts were screened on antioxidant activities using three methods including determination of total phenolic content (TPC), DPPH free radical scavenging assay (DPPH assay), and ferric reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP) assay. The extracts prepared ginger skin (TN-17) and coffee sediment (TN-16) showed strong activity.

  • The concept of vocational training in agriculture through KVK grew substantially due to greater demand for improved agricultural technology by the farmers. The study was carried out in Tlangnuam block of Aizawl District of Mizoram. The Tlangnuam block was purposively selected because of large number of farmers’ participation in KVK’s training programme. For the selection of respondents, a list of ginger trainees of KVK during preceding three years (2016-17 to 2018-19) was prepared. Out of 210 trainees list, only 60 farmers were randomly selected from KVK adopted villages of Tlangnuam block.

  • Herbal tea is often combined to create delicious taste with unique flavours and mainly enjoyed as a natural caffeine-free alternative to standard teas. In the present study, curry leaves based herbal tea were developed with the combination of moringa, amla, ginger, celery and sweet basil. The selected spices and herbs were subjected to drying conditions to obtain maximum retention of bioactive compounds. All the selected spices and herbs were dried by cabinet tray drying method to attain a brittle texture for easy blending. The herbal combination developed was packed as dip tea bags.

  • The study reveals that, majority of respondents 65.00 per cent have favourable opinion whereas, 20.00 per cent ginger growers have least favourable and remaining 15.00 per cent respondents had more favourable opinion about improved ginger production technology.   • The present study was carried out to assess the production performance on supplementation of turmeric, ginger and their combination in the diets of Gramapriya chicks (240 birds) for a period of 8 weeks. Six experimental diets were formulated with control diet (T1) containing neither turmeric or ginger, T2 and T3 were fed diets containing 0.50 and 0.75% turmeric respectively, T4 and T5 fed diet containing 0.50 and 0.75% ginger respectively, T6 fed diet containing a combination of 0.50% ginger and 0.50% turmeric with commercial feed.

  • Ginger, an indigenous plant, is an important spice crop of the world. Traditionally ginger is propagated by using portions of mother rhizomes called as sets. Each healthy set of 2.5 to 5 cm long, weighing 20-25 g and having two or three buds each are directly sown in the main filed. Though transplanting in ginger is not conventional, it is found profitable. A transplanting technique in ginger by using single bud sprouts (about 5 g) has been standardized to produce good quality planting material with reduced cost.

  • This study was conducted to determine the efficacy of leaves of Neem (N) and Tulsi (T), and Ginger (G) i.e. NTG extract as a growth promoter in broilers. A total of 20 day old broiler chicks were purchased from Kazi Farms Limited, and after seven days of acclimatization it was divided into two equal groups, i.e., group A and group B. No vaccination schedule was practiced and no antibiotics were added in the ration of these broilers. Group A served as control group and was not supplemented with NTG extract while group B was supplemented with NTG extract @ 1ml/litre in drinking water.

  • The present study was conducted to develop a meat analog which satisfies the need of meat for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Meat analog is a product produced from vegetarian ingredients but it resembles the meat in both nutritional and sensory characteristics. Meat analog was prepared from mushroom as a base, blended with different proportions of paneer and wheat gluten flour. Gluten flour was used as texturizing agent and spices such as ginger, garlic, coriander powder, pepper, chilli powder and salt were used for flavouring the product.
