  • In this study, we reported a facile synthesis and the characterization of PMMA-grafted ZrO2 hybrid nanoparticles from original ZrO2 (oZrO2) nanoparticles. The synthesis process included of three steps: (i) modification of nano ZrO2 with a vinyl silane agent, (ii) graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomers and modified ZrO2 (mZrO2) nanoparticles, and (iii) extraction of homo PMMA to obtain the final product of PMMA-g-ZrO2 (gZrO2) nanoparticles.

  • Deproteinized natural rubber/graphene oxide (DPNR/GO) nanocomposite was prepared and characterized in the present work. GO was synthesized by oxidation process via Hummer modified method, and it was characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and water contact angle.

  • This work reports the surface modification of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers by graft copolymerization to ensure the decoration of homogenous and dense Ag nanoparticles. Two facile and subsequent modification processes resulted in a PAN fiber composite with an intact fibrous structure, sufficiently conductive for antistatic application and antibacterial activity. In the first step, some chemically attractive monomers and monomer mixtures, such as acrylic acid (AA), AA-itaconic acid (AA-IA), AA-acrylamide (AA-AAm), were introduced to the fiber surface by grafting.

  • New superabsorbent hydrogels were synthesized through free radical graft copolymerization of partially neutralized acrylic acid (AA) and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AMPS) onto carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) backbones. The structure and morphology of the synthesized superabsorbent hydrogels were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope. The effect of the molar ratio of AMPS to AA, the APS concentration, and the CMC content on swelling ratio was optimized.

  • Decolorization of Reactive Red 3 from aqueous solution by laccase immobilized on the nanocomposite was studied in different conditions (pH, temperature, dye concentration, and reaction time) to investigate the decolorization activity with repeated use and storage. The results indicated that more than 77% of the activity of laccase immobilized systems was retained at the end of 10 cycles. The final decolorization capacity of the immobilized laccase was significantly higher (65%) than that of free laccase (33%) in the chosen optimized conditions (pH 5, 20 ◦ C, 0.

  • The monomers p-biphenyloxycarbonylphenyl acrylate (BPCPA) and p-biphenyloxycarbonylphenyl methacrylate (BPCPMA) were synthesized by the reaction of p-acryloyloxybenzoyl chloride and p-methacryloyloxybenzoyl chloride with 4-hydroxybiphenyl, respectively, and polymerized by bulk polymerization in vacuum by using dicumyl peroxide. The graft copolymerization of the monomers onto polypropylene were carried out by bulk melt polymerization at 170◦C with various concentration levels of the monomers and the initiator in reaction mixtures.

  • This study presents the qualitative and quantitative analyses of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectra of poly(methyl methacrylate)/poly(vinyl chloride) blends (PMMA/PVC), as well as PVC-g-PMMA graft copolymers. Graft copolymerizations of methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto PVC macromolecules were carried out in the mixture of cyclohexanone/N,N-dimethylformamide as solvents, dibenzoyl peroxide as initiator and nitrogen medium.

  • In this article, modifying chitosan (CS) is the grafting copolymerization using monomer n-butyl acrylate (BA) and tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as an initiator. This process purposes to attain product having lower glass transition temperature (Tg) than original chitosan causing a wide range of applications but still keeping the capability of being an excellently antibacterial agent.
