Gram staining is a classic but standard and essential procedure for the prompt selection of appropriate antibiotics in an emergency setting. Even in the era of sophisticated medicine with technically developed machinery, it is not uncommon that a classic procedure such as Gram staining is the most efficient for assisting physicians in making therapeutic decisions in a timely fashion.

The Gram stain can be used to direct initial empiric antimicrobial therapy when complete culture is not available. This rapid test could prevent the initiation of inappropriate therapy and adverse outcomes. However, several studies have attempted to determine the value of the Gram stain in the diagnosis and therapy of bacterial infection in different populations of patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) with conflicting results.

Twenty-two compounds in a series of 1-(benzo[ b ]thiophen-4-yl)-4-(2-(oxo, hydroxy, and fluoro)-2-phenylethyl) piperazine and 1-(benzo[d]isothiazole-3-yl)-4-(2-(oxo, hydroxy, and fluoro)-2-phenylethyl)-piperazine derivatives were synthesized through nucleophilic substitution reaction of phenacyl bromides with hetero arylpiperazine, reduction, and then fluorination. Compound K2 showed potent activity against gram-negative bacterial stain P. aeruginosa with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of 12.5 µg/mL.

Pyometra infections are commonly found in rabbit. In this study, a twoyear-old rabbit with the history of heavy cervico-vaginal discharge was examined. Vaginal swab was collected aseptically and processed for bacterial identification. Gram postitive cocci was identified in gram staining. Staphylococcus aureus was isolated on selective media (Baired Parker Agar) exhibited jet-black colonies with halo around and confirmed by biochemical tests such as catalase positive, oxidase negative and coagulase positive.

The present study was done to evaluate the antifungal susceptibility pattern of Candida species by Disc diffusion method which is helpful for guiding therapy. All clinical samples sent to the Microbiology laboratory were inoculated on to Blood agar and MacConkey agar. The suspected colonies of Candida were identified by Gram stain and inoculated onto CHROM Candida differential agar for speciation.

In the present study, total 290 swab samples collected from organized poultry farms located in Navsari and Valsad districts and screened for prevalence study and different serotype of E. coli infection using culture isolation and identification. Isolation and identification resulted out of 290 swab samples 207 isolates produced lactose fermenting pink colored colonies on MacConkey agar, produced colonies with greenish metallic sheen on EMB agar and grams staining revealed typical gram-negative rods morphologically similar to E. coli.

The present study was carried out to detect the sensitivity pattern and prevalence of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) at tertiary care hospital, Surendranagar. Total 1776 Clinical specimens were studied. All the isolates were identified by standard microbiological procedures like gram staining, colony morphology on solid culture media and biochemical reactions. Antibiotic sensitivity testing was done for all isolates by modified Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method. Total 194 Staphylococcus aureus were tested for MRSA by Cefoxitin disc diffusion test...

A study of bacterial uropathogens and their antibiotic sensitivity pattern in a tertiary care centre
Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common infection seen in clinical practice in all age groups. The UTI is most commonly caused by E.coli. There is emergence of multidrug resistant bacteria because of inadvertent use of antibiotics in treating these infections. The changing trend of pathogens and their antibiotic sensitivity the study has been undertaken, to determine the bacteria causing the UTI and find their antibiotic sensitivity. A total of 200 urine specimens showing the significant bacteriuria are studied. The midstream urine samples collected in a sterile container.

Detection of Methicillin resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus using phenotypic and genotypic methods in a tertiary care hospital Institution: Institute of Microbiology, Madras Medical College. Abstract: Purpose: Methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA) are significant pathogens that have emerged over the past 30 years to cause both nosocomial and community acquired infections. This study has been undertaken to compare the conventional and molecular methods in detecting MRSA. S. aureus was isolated from pus samples and identified by Gram stain and Catalase test.
