In conclusion, the geotechnical properties of the unhydrated sand-mixed GBFS become more advantageous than those of natural sand. In addition, by mixing with natural sand, the hydration reaction rate and the solidification of GBFS are controlled. This means that it is possible to keep the compressive strength and the permeability at the predetermined conditions and, in turn, to satisfy requirements for the SCP method with LSRAR.

Blast-furnace slag (BFS) is enormously generated each year and has been considered as hazardous solid waste which is posing a significant pressure on waste treatment in terms of storage and transportation. This study aims to recycle BFS as a material for ammonium adsorption from an aqueous solution.

Due to rapid industrialization and modernization, a large number of both fly ash (FA) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS), both by-products from thermal power plants and steel factories, are increasing day by day. Thus, recycling these industrial wastes to produce lightweight foamed concrete (LFC) was investigated in this study.

Finding new eco-binders as an alternative to conventional Portland cement in construction activities has recently attracted many researchers worldwide. The feasibility of activating blended fly ash (FA)-ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS) by commercial Na2SO4 to produce sulfate-activated binder (SAB) was introduced in this study.

This work studies the compressive strength development and the relationship between compressive strength and thermal conductivity of an eco-friendly cementless mortar. The samples are prepared from a mixture of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) and rice husk ash (RHA) with the addition of circulating fluidized bed combustion (CFBC) fly ash as an activator.

The potential use of locally sourced ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS) and commercial sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) in the development of an eco-friendly sulfate-activated binder (SAB) was investigated in this study. The influence of Na2SO4 contents (1.5, 3.0, 4.5, 6.0, and 7.5% by mass of GGBFS) as a crucial sulfate activator on mechanical strength and durability performance of the SAB samples was evaluated through the tests of compressive strength, porosity, chloride ion penetration, and ultrasonic pulse velocity.

This study uses densified mixture design algorithm (DMDA) to design the mixture proportions green mortars incorporating fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS). Three green mortar mixtures with various paste contents were designed using the DMDA method while a control cement-based mortar mixture was designed using the conventional method for comparison.

Samples of Granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) from Formosa steel plant (called as Formosa GBFS) were collected and used for several testing series regarding potential application as an alternative material in construction and civil works. Unhydrated GBFS particle shows river sand-like shapes by all appearances with more angular and therefore, it shows higher shear strength than those of natural sand.

In this study, physico-mechanical and chemical properties of GBFS produced by Formosa steel plant in Vietnam (named as Formosa GBFS) were observed and compared with those of GBFS produced in Japan. Such comparisons were also performed with a granite rock-crushed sand which is widely applied as an alternative construction material to natural sand in Thua Thien Hue province.

This paper focuses on the engineering properties of GBFS as a basis for applicability assessment to construction materials. The obtained results indicate that GBFS in Vietnam have grained grade in range of medium to course size, bulk specific gravity is approximate 1.0 g/cm3 , specific gravity is less than 2.3 g/cm3 and content of CaO and SiO2 is around 35-38%.

Normal strength (NSC) and high-performance concretes (HPC) are being used extensively in the construction of structures that might be subjected to elevated temperatures. The behaviour of concrete structures at elevated temperatures is of significant importance in predicting the safety of structures in response to certain accidents or particular service conditions. This paper deals with the mechanical properties of concrete made with ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) subjected to temperatures up to 350 C.
