The effects of initial graphite particle size and shape on oxidation time of graphite prepared by Hummers' method have been investigated. The oxidation was performed on three series of graphite particles, clod powder with two different sizes of 18 and 6 mm, and flake shaped powder with an average particle size of 25 mm.

In this study, the effects of starting material types on graphene oxide (GO) are reported with the aim of developing graphene (GR) synthesis. The GOs were prepared from natural graphite (NG) powder and graphite nanoplate (GNp) based on the Hummers method. Two kinds of GR were successfully synthesized using GOs, which were prepared from NG and GNp in the presence of hydrazine and ammonia for 24 h at a 100◦C reaction temperature.

Mechanical alloying was used to synthesize in-situ copper based composite reinforced by binary niobiumtitanium-carbide from Cu, Nb, Ti and graphite powder mixture. The nominal composition was correponded to Cu-30 vol.% (Nb,Ti)C. XRD patterns showed that (Nb, Ti)C was not formed in the as-milled powder after 5 hours of milling but was precipitated with a subsequent sintering at 900oC. Milling time has showed a great influence on both mechanical and physical properties of the sintered composite pellets

The aim of this research is to investigate the influence of the sintering temperature on the properties of the in-situ carbide (Nb,Ti)C in a copper matrix synthesized via mechanical alloying and powder metallurgy from elemental powders of Cu, Nb, Ti and graphite. The mixture of starting powders with compositions corresponding to Cu-15vol.% (Nb, Ti)C was mechanical alloyed using a planetary ball mill for 20 hours.

Silver nanoparticles (30-70 nm) have been impregnated on the activated graphite powder by an electroless plating method. The so prepared silver decorated graphite powders are characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

Low-cost carbon powder prepared by carbonization of bamboo wood was characterized by means of X-rays diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. The structural analysis of the carbon powder shows that the material is the composite of amorphous and graphitic forms of carbon. Furthermore, the carbon powder was used as the counter electrode material of dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) and the electric property of the bamboo carbon based counter electrode was investigated by obtaining current-voltage (I-V) curve of the DSC.

A simple microextraction method based on solidification of a floating organic drop (SFOD) was developed for preconcentration of lead prior to its determination by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS). Ammonium pyrolidinedithiocarbamate (APDC) was used as complexing agent, and the formed complex was extracted into a 20 lL of 1-undecanol. The extracted complex was diluted with ethanol and injected into a graphite furnace.
