Bisulfate intercalated graphites with different particle sizes were prepared by a chemically oxidative method using natural flaky graphites as raw materials. The morphology and structure of the expandable graphites were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction patterns, and scanning electron microscope.

In the present investigation, GNS have been prepared by an aqueous anodic exfoliation of pencil graphite in an acidic medium at different dc voltages (5 Ve12 V). The GNS prepared at optimum voltage were mixed with polyaniline (PANI) polymer and drop casted on an indium tin oxide (ITO)/Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate to study the I-V characteristics and to measure the band gap of composites.

The effects of initial graphite particle size and shape on oxidation time of graphite prepared by Hummers' method have been investigated. The oxidation was performed on three series of graphite particles, clod powder with two different sizes of 18 and 6 mm, and flake shaped powder with an average particle size of 25 mm.

Silicon with the properties of high capacity capability, moderate working potential, environmental sensitivity, and existence are the highly promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Silicon anodes have disadvantageous properties and advantages like 300% volume change during lithium insertion and extraction process that can result in capacity fading and a shorter lifetime of the battery. The power density of direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) can be changed by using different anode materials. Especially porous materials are preferred for the anode. In the present study, multiwall carbon nanotubes were first injected into graphite. Then, by depositing nickel, a catalyst was prepared for use as the anode material of the DMFC. This catalyst was named Ni@MWNTs. The oxidation of methanol and some kinetic parameters were investigated in KOH solution.

The present work examıned the use of biochar derived from tea waste as a novel electrode material. For the fabrication of the biochar electrode, suitable amounts of biochar and graphite were mixed with mineral oil for the first time. The electrochemical performance of the biochar-modified carbon paste electrode (BCPE) was measured by various cyclic voltammetric reactions for several redox systems. The factors affecting the electrode kinetics of BCPE surfaces were examined and optimized. The BCPE was applied as transducer in a glucose biosensor.

The fracture toughness of the composites showed a reverse trend. By adjusting the graphite content to 6 wt%, excellent control of microstructure could be achieved for the prepared composites with a higher amount of ZrC and lower content of other unfavorable phases.

The present paper describes the voltammetric analysis of dipyridamole (DIP) at a cheap, disposable pencil graphite electrode (PGE). The working conditions were optimized with regard to the electrode material and the supporting electrolyte. Cyclic voltammetric investigations emphasized that DIP is irreversibly oxidized at the PGE. The electrode process is pH-dependent and controlled by both diffusion and adsorption. For DIP quantitative determination a differential pulse voltammetric (DPV) method in phosphate buffer solution pH 7.00 was developed.

In this study, the effects of starting material types on graphene oxide (GO) are reported with the aim of developing graphene (GR) synthesis. The GOs were prepared from natural graphite (NG) powder and graphite nanoplate (GNp) based on the Hummers method. Two kinds of GR were successfully synthesized using GOs, which were prepared from NG and GNp in the presence of hydrazine and ammonia for 24 h at a 100◦C reaction temperature.

Scalable, highly stable supercapacitor electrodes were developed from the mixture of a tea factory waste based activated carbon (AC) and a low-cost electrochemical exfoliated graphene (EEG). The hybrid electrodes showed notably enhanced stability at high current densities. The AC sample was prepared by chemical method and exposed to a further heat treatment to enhance electrochemical performance. Graphene used in the preparation of hybrid electrodes was obtained by direct electrochemical exfoliation of graphite in an aqueous solution.

Silicon carbide (SiC) was synthesized from Vietnamese rice husk ash and diatomite via the Acheson process in a graphite electric arc furnace. In this type of furnace, arc current generates temperature and therefore effect on the formation of SiC. The influence of arc current at 100, 150 and 200 A was investigated. Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy, XRD and Raman spectroscopy were performed to analyze the formation of SiC materials. Results showed the weight percentage of SiC in the synthesized product increased as the arc current increased.

A manganese oxides mediator was electrodeposited onto a low-cost pencil graphite electrode (PE) from an easily available and affordable potassium permanganate precursor. In this work, highly ordered mesoporous graphitic carbon (G-CMK3) has been prepared successfully by a nano-casting method using sucrose as carbon source, mesoporous silica as hard template, and soybean oil as surfactant. In the absence of soybean oil surfactant, the synthesized ordered mesoporous carbon material, CMK-3, revealed a low graphitization degree with a specific surface area of 1049.1 m2 /g and a high pore volume of 1.172 cm3 /g.
