  • In this study, 4E (energy, exergy, exergoeconomic, and exergoenvironmental) analysis of an underfloor heating system integrated with the geothermal heat pump of a greenhouse with a usage area of 90 m2 has been made. When the results of the 4E analysis applied to the system and its elements were examined, the energy efficiency of the heating system in the winter months has been determined to be 77.85% and the exergy efficiency 30.61%.

  • This research explores whether Environmental Management Accounting can be applied to assist an Australian cogeneration company in improving both its financial performance as well as its environmental performance. Cogeneration or ‘combined heat and power’, in this particular case, involves the simultaneous production of heat and electricity using a single fuel, that is, natural gas. The heat generated is then used to produce steam to meet the customers’ requirements as well as boost the production of electricity.

  • Geothermal energy constitutes an important renewable resource in Turkey that has been extensively utilized for heating buildings, power generation, greenhouse farming and various other industries. One of the most remarkable geothermal locations in Turkey is the low-enthalpy area of Afyon, where five main low-temperature (30–110℃) geothermal fields are exploited. However, further exploration drilling sites have proven inconclusive, casting doubts on the effective presence of high-temperature geothermal systems in the region.

  • Low-cost activated carbon (AC) samples obtained from waste coffee grounds were used for CO2 and CH4 adsorption. ACs were prepared by chemical activation and carbonized at three different temperatures. AC carbonized at 800◦C showed a relatively high surface area (582.92 m2 g−1) and high adsorption capacities of 2.6 mmol g−1 and 1.1 mmol g−1 at 25◦C for CO2 and CH4, respectively. Adsorbent samples were prepared by loading of Fe3+ metal ions onto ACs and their adsorption capacities were compared with those of nonloaded ACs.

  • Microclimate of green houses is important for better plant growth and greater yield. The dynamic behavior of the greenhouse microclimate is a combination of physical processes involving energy transfer and mass balance. The greenhouse microclimate can be manipulated by control actions, such as heating, ventilation, carbon dioxide enrichment to provide appropriate environmental conditions for crops. These modifications imply the additional use of energy in the production process.

  • Preservation of fruits, vegetables, and food are essential for keeping them for a long time without further deterioration in the quality of the product. Solar drying has been used since time immemorial to dry plants, seeds, fruits, meat, fish, wood, and other agricultural, forest products. The aim of the dryer is mainly for the welfare of the marginalized and poor farmers those who can’t afford hi-tech facilities and equipment’s to preserve their agricultural products. Drying of Safed Musli (Chlorophypum boribilianum) in open sun drying require more time and affected its quality.

  • Thermoelectrics (TE) is well-known as a non-smoke technology for electricity production from waste heat and for greenhouse effect reduction. Enhancing power factor (PF = S 2 , where S is Seebeck coefficient and  is electrical conductivity) and figure of merit of TE materials to achieve high-performance TE devices has attracted much scientific attention. Doping foreign elements into host bulk structure is a basic and traditional solution to modify the thermoelectric properties of materials. In this work, we use small amount of 0.5 at.

  • The atmosphere of Earth is a layer of gases surrounding the planet Earth that is retained by Earth's gravity. The atmosphere protects life on Earth by absorbing ultraviolet solar radiation, warming the surface through heat retention (greenhouse effect), and reducing temperature extremes between day and night (the diurnal temperature variation).

  • Almost all motorized transportation today involves the combustion of fossil fuels, which produces energy to be transformed into motion. This combustion is the reaction of the hydrogen and carbon present in the fuels with oxygen in the air to produce–in the ideal world–water vapour (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Neither of these products is damaging to human health.

  • Historical analyses also reveal wide- spread disasters, social disruption and disease outbreaks in response to the more acute, inter-annual, quasi-periodic ENSO (El Niño Southern Oscillation) cycle (1). The depletion of soil fertility and freshwater supplies, and the mismanage- ment of water catchment basins via excessive deforestation, also have con- tributed to the decline of various regional populations over the millennia (2). Today, climate scientists predict that humankind’s increasing emission of greenhouse gases will induce a long-term change in the world’s climate.

  • Information about climate1 is used to make decisions every day. From farmers deciding which crops to plant next season to mayors in large cities deciding how to prepare for future heat waves, and from an insurance company assessing future flood risks to a national security planner assessing future conflict risks from the impacts of drought, users of climate information span a vast array of sectors in both the public and private spheres. Each of these communities has different needs for climate data, with different time horizons (see Box 1) and different tolerances for uncertainty...
