Groundnuts in India are available throughout the year due to a two crop cycle which are harvested in March and October. Rajasthan is the second highest groundnut producing state in India. In 2018-19, groundnut was cultivated on 0.67 million hectares area in the state, producing to a level of 1.38 million tonnes.

An analytical study was made to identify the efficient cropping zone for groundnut in Tamil Nadu. For this study the data on percentage area and productivity of groundnut for ten years (2006-07 to 2015-16) were collected. Based on relative spread index (RSI) and relative yield index (RYI) the efficient cropping zone were identified. Among thirty one districts, five districts were found as most efficient cropping zones (MECZ).

The paddy area has significantly increased from 1997 to 2018 based on our research study. On the whole, there was a significant increase in the area of paddy, apart from groundnut, sugarcane and other crops grown indifferent mandals in the four districts located under the TGP command. The results based on our research study are useful to the Government for efficient crop planning in different districts of Andhra Pradesh.

In India, the productivity of various crops is unstable mainly due to climatic factors, price volatility and resource availability. The pre-harvest forecasting of the crop productivity is a major priority to know about the market demand of the crops. The present study focused the ability of pre-harvest forecasting performance of stepwise regression method and the ARIMA method. In stepwise regression method, two approaches were developed namely (1) using week-wise original weather variable and (2) weather indices using correlation coefficient as weight.

The field experiment on screening of tomato lines for GBNV infection was carried out Horticultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and Coimbatore. Totally 25 hybrids/varieties were screened in Rabi season during 2015. None of the varieties/hybrids screened were resistant or immune to GBNV during Rabi season. However, average disease incidence ranged from 7.55 to 25.25 percent indicating moderately resistant to highly susceptible.

Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is an important edible oilseed crop in the country next to groundnut and soybean. One of the major factors for reduction in area of the crop is being attributed to the occurrence of fungal and viral diseases like sunflower necrosis disease (SND) and Sunflower leaf curl virus (SuLCV) resulting in yield loss in most of the sunflower growing regions of Southern and Northern India. In Karnataka, SuLCV has been reported to occur in almost all the popular sunflower hybrids grown during kharif, rabi and summer seasons with varied intensity.

The planting machinery is usually critically important in crop establishment. Planting machines modify the pre-existing seed and soil conditions, and dictate seed placement within the seedbed. The pre-existing conditions can be improved or impaired as a result. An essential requirement of effective machinery management is to identify the main components of these machine-soil-seed interactions.

The main constraints hampering higher yields and quality of groundnut in Karnataka could be attributed to several production constraints, which may biotic and abiotic stresses include poor and imbalanced nutrition. Therefore, plant nutrition plays a vital role in increasing production and productivity of groundnut. Fertilizer application normally results in increased crop yields up to certain levels. However, the exact time and dose of fertilizer application is also important for successful exploitation of the crop’s potentiality in terms of yield.
