The farmers are using local cultivators ie Jhain Mung which gives poor yield. Generally the farmers are not adopting any nutrient and biofertilizer application and YMV is the major reason for poor yield in this area. As the crop is grown in residual soil moisture, the crop faces water stress condition many times. One of the major constraints of poor yield and spread of green gram, is the non-availability of suitable high yielding variety to replace the traditional varieties.

The green gram (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek) is one of the important pulse crop because of its adaptation to short growth duration, low water requirement, soil fertility and is favoured for consumption due to its easy digestibility and low production of flatulence (Shil and Bandopadhya, 2007).

The present study was carried to evaluate the efficacy of various plant extracts and bio-agents against Macrophomina phaseolina. It is a devastating disease in green gram growing area of Rajasthan. In vitro evaluation of bio-agents and seven plants extract (Datura stramonium, Allium sativum, Zingiber officinalis, Lepticium sparticum, Azadirachta indica, NSKE and Allium cepa), revealed that maximum growth inhibition of Macrophomina phaseolina was recorded in Allium sativum followed by Zingiber officinalis at 5%, 10% and 15% concentrations. Among the concentrations 15 % was most effective.

The state of Odisha having an agrarian based economy depends largely on agriculture for the livelihood of its population. Pulses are important commodity group of crops that provides high quality protein complementing cereal proteins for predominantly substantial vegetatarian population of the country. Pulses are grown in all the 30 districts of Odisha. Major pulses grown in Odisha are black gram, green gram, arhar, cowpea chickpea etc.

This paper analyses the growth rates and instability indices of major pulses in Andhra Pradesh. Decomposition analysis was carried out to measure the relative contribution of area and yield to the growth in total production of major pulses. The study period has been divided into two sub periods for the purpose of analysis of growth rates and decomposition analysis viz., 1995-96 to 2005-2006 and 2005-06 to 2015-16. Growth rate analysis showed that both the production and yield of major pulse crops were positive whereas the area was positive except for green gram and black gram.

Experiments were carried out to determine the possible allelopathic effects of jatropha (Jatropha curcas) on chilli (Capsicum annum) and green gram (Vigna radiata). Aqueous extract of jatropha leaf at 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% (W/V) concentrations were bio-assayed against germination and seedling growth of chilli and green gram. In both crops, germination percentage, germination index, plumule and radicle length, fresh and dry weight of plumule and radicle were appreciably reduced by aqueous extract of jatropha leaf in a concentration dependent manner.
