We describe a case of Mauriac syndrome, which is a rare complication of poorly controlled type I diabetes that combines glycogenosis, hepatomegaly, growth retardation with a Cushingoid appearance that is most often present in children but also in young adults. Here we also describe another finding with this syndrome, which is hyperlactatemia.

Epigenetic defects (gain or loss of DNA methylation) of the human ICR1 11p15 domain result in two opposite foetal growth disorders (BWS and SRS) depending on which parental allele is affected. A few deletions within ICR1 have been reported in familial BWS cases with ICR1 gain of methylation, however the mechanism(s) of the DNA methylation defects at ICR1 remains largely unknown in most BWS and SRS patients.

This study is focused on the measurement of trace elements (zinc, copper, cadmium, lead and selenium) in the saliva of pigs in order to study their levels on different porcine pathological conditions in the field. The experiment involved 15 pigs without clinical signs of disease and 42 diseased pigs (suffering from lameness, rectal prolapse, fatigue or growth rate retardation).

The functioning of these enzymes is affected significantly due to Zn deficiency and there will be a retarded growth and productivity of plants. Deficiency of Zn is a universal problem among cereal crops. The concentration of Zn varies from 6-1.2 mg/kg in various soils, whereas its concentration reaches 20-300 ppm in plants. Zn deficiency leads to chlorosis in the leaves of plants.

In vegetable growing, seedling is the foundation of a successful growing. Use of commercial seedlings have become more popular in recent years due to effective use of labour and land and economic concerns. It is aimed to produce small vigorous seedlings with sufficient roots and free of diseases and pests in the commercial seedling enterprises. Although certain cultural applications are used for production of small-sized seedlings, growth retarding chemicals are generally preferred due to their effective results.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the causes of financing difficulties of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Asian context. Recent literature suggests that lack of capital is the most severe constraint for SMEs’ survival and growth. Financing remains a critical constraint for several reasons. Information asymmetry between banks and SMEs retards the loans applications and underdeveloped equity markets deny SMEs future growth opportunities.

Low temperatures decrease the capacity for biomass production and lead to growth retardation up to irreversible cellular damage in modern maize cultivars. European flint landraces are an untapped genetic resource for genes and alleles conferring cold tolerance which they acquired during their adaptation to the agroecological conditions in Europe.

Production of marigold can be improved to a large extent by the judicious cultural operations i.e. application of optimum fertilizer at required time, crop management practices and use of plant growth regulators. Hence, an experiment was carried out in the Research Farm of Adhiparasakthi Horticultural College, Kalavai, during 2018-19 to find out the effect of plant growth regulators (NAA, GA3) and growth retardants (Maleic hydrazide, Alar) on growth and yield of African marigold var. Pusa Narangi Gainda.

An experiment was carried out in Randomized Block Design to study the effect of plant growth retardants on carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L. var. Orange viana in Prayagraj agro-climatic condition at Department of Horticulture, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Science, Prayagraj. Based on the experiment, it can be concluded that CCC @ 1000 ppm is better in increasing side shoots (7.6), Minimum plant height was recorded in CCC @ 1500 ppm (57.7 cm).

A field experiment was conducted to find out the effect of different growth retardants on yield and yield contributing characters in mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Alphonso under Ultra High Density Planting during 2013-2014 at Jain Irrigation Systems Limited (JISL) Farms, in Tamil Nadu. Eleven treatments with different combinations were imposed on five-year-old uniform sized Alphonso trees grown under a spacing of 3 x 2 m.

Extreme cold in freezing retards growth of microorganisms and slows down changes that affect quality or cause spoilage in fresh fruits. Little information is available on the use of packaging for freezing of fruits. Therefore, an investigation was taken to study anti-darkening treatments and packaging materials on whole and sliced frozen fruits of aonla cv. Gujarat Aonla-1.

Cycocel ameliorated the osmotic stress at -4bar PEG by increasing chlorophyll contents in slow expanding shoots and increased radicle thickness enhancing root system under water stress. Remarkable effects of CCC on radicle thickness were displayed on root cap enlargement under -4 and -8 bars osmotic stress. Root growth/ radicle length was reduced drastically in kinetin treatments under all levels of water stress.

The interaction between root knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita and the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.lycopersici was studied on tomato cultivar Pusa Ruby under pot house conditions. The effect of the nematode in combination with the fungus enhanced the suppression of plant growth than that of the fungus alone. Inoculation of the nematode and fungus exhibited a synergistic effect on growth retardation of plants. Significant reduction in plant heights in pots with nematode alone (43.77 cm) and fungus alone (43.83 cm) were also recorded, as compared to un-inoculated control (56.23 cm).

A field trail was conducted to study the effect of different levels of growth promoters and retardants on growth and flower yield of different cultivars of African marigold. Two PGR’s namely Gibberellins (GA3) and Cycocel (CCC) were taken as growth promoter and growth retardant, respectively. Two cultivars namely Pusa Narangi Gainda and Pusa Basanti Gainda were taken to evaluate their suitability in Chhattisgarh. The result indicated that the growth and flower yield were significantly influenced by different plant growth regulators and cultivars.
