Postreperfusion syndrome and haemodynamic instability are predictors for poor outcome after liver transplantation. Cytokine release has been claimed to be responsible for postreperfusion syndrome. However, the underlying pathophysiologic mechanism is not clarified.

Patients undergoing craniotomy operations are prone to various noxious stimuli, many strategies are commenced to provide state of analgesia, for better control of the stress response and to overcome its undesired effects on the haemodynamics and post-operative pain. Scalp nerves block are considered one of these strategies. This study was conceived to evaluate the effect of addition of hyaluronidase to the local anaesthetic mixture used in the scalp nerves block in patients undergoing elective craniotomy operations.

Dexmedetomidine (DEX) has sedative, sympatholytic and analgesic effects and might be beneficial if used as an adjuvant to: Improve analgesia; modulate haemodynamic responses to intubation and pneumoperitoneum and; reduce the number of opioid-associated adverse events.

Propofol may result in hypotension and respiratory depression, while etomidate is considered to be a safe induction agent for haemodynamically unstable patients because of its low risk of hypotension. We hypothesized that etomidate anesthesia during ERCP caused more stable haemodynamic responses compared with propofol.

The growth of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a tool for studying brain function, as opposed to its more traditional role as a tool for studying brain anatomy and pathology, has been quite remarkable over the past decade. This has been driven in large measure by an appreciation of the considerable potential for functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to increase our understanding of how the human brain works, both in the normal and diseased states.
