Within the domain of neurorehabilitation, the scientific community has increasingly advocated for the employment of robotic apparatuses to facilitate prolonged and intensive motor therapy. Of particular importance is the frequently neglected hand and wrist rehabilitation, which is instrumental in regaining the fundamental abilities required for daily activities.

Replantation in the upper extremity is a well-established microsurgical procedure. Many have reported patients’ satisfaction and functional measurements. The aim was to investigate the long time consequences as activity limitations in hand/arm, the general health and cold sensitivity after a replantation or revascularization in the upper extremity and to examine if sense of coherence (SOC) can be an indicator for rehabilitation focus.

Patient-rated outcome measures (PROMs) are an important part of clinical decision-making in rehabilitation of patients with shoulder pain. The Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) questionnaire was designed to measure physical disability and symptoms in patients with musculoskeletal disorders of the upper extremity and is one the most commonly used outcome measures for patients with shoulder pain.

Sensorimotor disturbances of the hand such as altered neuromuscular control and reduced proprioception have been reported for various musculoskeletal disorders. This can have major impact on daily activities such as dressing, cooking and manual work, especially when involving high demands on precision and therefore needs to be considered in the assessment and rehabilitation of hand disorders.

Chapter 17 - Economics is everywhere. After reading this chapter, you should be able to answer the following questions: How does Adam Smith’s invisible hand improve technology? What is technological utopia? What will happen with the artificial enhancement of human intelligence? How can we use the invisible hand to strengthen airport security, rehabilitate ex-cons, to catch outlaws, to improve schools, to fulfill quest for knowledge?

This paper presents an experimental study for the structural performance of reinforced concrete (RC) exterior beam–column joints rehabilitated using carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP). The present experimental program consists of testing 10 half-scale specimens divided into three groups covering three possible defects in addition to an adequately detailed control specimen. The considered defects include the absence of the transverse reinforcement within the joint core, insufficient bond length for the beam main reinforcement and inadequate spliced implanted column on the joint.

Le Trong Trai et al. (2001) argued that with an abundance of heavily degraded land available for rehabilitation, forest management and other land uses, there is considerable potential for cash earning activities in the buffer zone (for example through economic crop plantations). This activity would also reduce the overall pressure on the forest resources in the nature reserve. They also suggested that current arrangements for forest development and management in the bare lands are costly, create social tensions and seem to be unsustainable in the long run.

Cerebrovascular diseases have an enormous and increasing impact on societies: they rank among the leading causes of death, are often associated with chronic handicap, and cause high costs for primary treatment, rehabilitation and chronic care. The advent of treatment options such as reperfusion therapies and, to a lesser degree, neuroprotective strategies on the one hand, and growing means to enhance rehabilitation and functional plasticity on the other hand, urges physicians to diagnose stroke subtypes as early and precisely as possible.
