  • The present study was undertaken to assess the working posture of women workers involved in various handloom activities. Data were collected by interview method, photography, video recording, and observation of work practices. A total of 60 workers were taken for the study from Lakhimpur district of Assam. The postural assessment was done by using ergonomic tools: RULA and Strain Index. Awkward postures were observed in the handloom workers.

  • Handloom sector is an important second position employer in the country after agriculture by contributing to nearly 30 % of total exports. Pochampally handloom weaving is very popular in Telangana state. Most of the pochampally ikat weavers are located in Nalgonda distrtict. Weaving is a family enterprise where right from the child to the old man in the family get involved in various weaving related activities. Hence a descriptive research design was adopted to study the socio-economic status of ikat weavers.

  • Handloom sector is a leading sphere in the country after agriculture in providing direct and indirect employment to more than 43 lakh weavers and allied workers. The present study was taken up to find out the socio economic status of handloom weavers. Purposive random sampling method was used to select the 120durrie weavers from Warangal urban. Income, educational qualification, and profession were taken into consideration to compute socioeconomic status. Findings revealed that gender ratio in the occupation was3:1.
