  • The present study entitled “Effect of different growing conditions on rooting and growth of stem cuttings in pomegranate (Punica granatum L.)”, was conducted at Horticultural Research Centre (HRC) of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, during 2016 and 2017. The experiment was laid out using RBD with two growing conditions. The stem cuttings when grown in under shade had recorded significantly earliest sprouting and highest survival, shoot and root growth of stem cutting.

  • In this study, hard wood cuttings of Hibiscus rosa-sinenis Cultivar Red Single were treated with nine different dose of gamma rays (1 to 5 k R) and ten different concentrations of EMS ranging from 0.1% to 1.0%. The results revealed that gradual reduction in survival of cuttings, shoot length, leaf length and leaf width with increase in dosage of gamma rays and EMS. However gamma rays treated plants showed significant gradual reduction in growth rate than the EMS treated plants. Based on probit analysis, LD50 (Lethal dose) value for gamma radiation and EMS have been fixed as 2.81 kR and 0.

  • Pomegranate can be propagated by seed, air layering, grafting, shoot cuttings and tissue culture. Seed propagation is used to raise the rootstocks that can be utilized for germplasm conservation and rootstocks breeding purpose. Vegetative propagation methods are used to multiply selected genotypes that bring similar character in form of clones having similar characters to mother plant. Vegetative propagation techniques (hard wood cutting, layering) are practices to raise the saplings for commercial production in pomegranate, because it perpetuates all characteristics of each cultivar.

  • Saraca asoca (Roxb.) De Wilde is one of the endangered medicinal plants of Western Ghats. An experiment was carried out to standardize seed and vegetative propagation for this very important medicinal plant. Among the different germination inducing treatments, the seed treated with GA3 200 ppm recorded early germination (23.73), highest germination rate (2.95%), seedling vigour (6315.10), seedling height (68.40 cm), fresh weight (16.00 g) and dry weight of seedling (8.47 g). In case of vegetative propagation, hard wood cuttings and air layering was carried out.

  • Commercially plum is multiplied by budding and grafting which is a difficult exercise for unskilled farmers. Therefore, multiplication through semi hard wood stem cuttings in mist house has been studied with six treatments of indole-3-butyric acid concentrations (0, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000 ppm) at Horticulture Research Center, HNBGU, Srinagar Garhwal, Uttarakhand during the year 2016-17 under Ph.D. discipline. Cuttings were treated by quick dip (2 minute) method and planted in disposable glass. All observations were registered after 90 days of planting the cuttings under mist chamber.
