This will present exhaustive reviews and conclusion of the researches with objectives to review the results of various researches on heat stress of farmers and to recommend various practices to be followed for preventing heat stress.

  • The present investigation was carried out to study the feeding and housing patterns adopted by buffaloes keepers in Junagadh and Porbandar districts of Gujarat State. A random sample of 300 buffalo owners were selected from three talukas of Junagadh and two talukas of Porbandar district. Majority of buffalo owners (55.67%) had animal shed located inside dwelling house with kuccha slopped floor (83.67%). Most of buffalo owners reduced heat stress in buffaloes by splashing of water and 71% farmers adopted both stall feeding and grazing to their buffalo.

  • The main occupation in India is agriculture and livestock sector is an integral part of agriculture with a share of 25.6 per cent in its GDP. For sustained production of livestock products, animals must reproduce and produce efficiently. However, there are numerous factors that negatively affect the efficiency of animals. At present, climate change is considered as major factor affecting performance of dairy animals. Exposure of animals to excessive environmental stress causes a marked depression in milk production and reproduction and ultimately lowers the income of dairy farmers.

  • Air temperature and relative humidity are two primary environmental factors in terms of THI that determining the heat stress level in livestock. Heat stress has detrimental effects on egg production, egg quality of laying hen and reduced growth rate in broiler production. Exposure of environmental stress during the growing period of broilers has been coupled with undesirable meat quality. Heat stress has adverse effects on behaviour, welfare and immunity of poultry and decreases the egg production resulting in massive economic losses of farmer.
