The effect of fresh juice extract of Azadirachta indica on lipid profile and hepatic function of Plasmodium berghei infected albino mice were investigated. Thirty adult male mice were placed in five groups of six mice each, acclimatized for 7 days and used for the study. Group A was normal control and had free access to feed and water while groups B to E were infected with Plasmodium berghei, and confirmed of parasitamia on the third day. A 21-year-old man from India presented with acute hepatitis associated with a 1-week history of abdominal pain, pruritus, and dark urine. Over a 7-day admission, the patient’s acute hepatitis evolved into acute liver failure with low-grade encephalopathy, markedly elevated transaminases, bilirubin, and impaired hepatic synthetic function. He was eventually diagnosed with acute hepatitis E virus (HEV) and was transitioned to supportive management. Acute HEV is a rare cause of acute liver failure.

HBV-DNA is a concern for transmission from transfusion or transplantation in serologically negative blood for HBV i.e., occult hepatitis B (OHB). The aim of this study is to find out the prevalence of HBV infection in multitransfusd patients including OHB infections. The present study was conducted in 200 multitransfused patients attending the haematology/thalassemia OPD. Blood sample were collected and tested for HBsAg, Anti HBs, Anti HBc and HBV DNA by DNA PCR.

Hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus share common modes of transmission i.e. by blood and blood products mainly and also noticed in drug addicts. Hepatitis B virus and Hepatitis C virus have been recognized as a major pathogen causing significant morbidity and mortality throughout the world including India. Hepatitis E virus is the major cause of non A enteral hepatitis. It is usually transmitted by fecal oral route, but infection is possible after bloodproducts transfusion and during birth. The medical literature data are controversial whether dialysis patients are at higher risk of infection. The aim of the study was to investigate the distribution of HEV infection (seroprevalence) in hemodialysis patients from Pazardzhik region, Bulgaria. 102 patients (58.8% men and 41.2% - women) on dialysis treatment were tested. The term viral hepatitis refers to primary infection of liver by any one of the heterogeneous group of hepatitis virus which currently consists of types A, B, C, D, E and G Hepatitis virus infection occurs as an acute illness. HBsAg (Hepatitis B surface antigen) is the most common marker of infection, which is present in high concentrations in early acute infections and is continued to be produced in chronic disease. The present study is undertaken because there is paucity of data indicating prevalence of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C among pre-operative patients admitted in our hospital.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infected patients are known to be exposed to major liver complications i.e. cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. In addition, many extrahepatic manifestations including rheumatologic disorders have been reported in up to two-third of HCV infected patients.
