Hepatocyte nuclear factor-3β (HNF-3β) plays a critical role in hepatocyte differentiation and controls liver-specific gene expression during the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the molecular basis of this process has not been fully elucidated.

Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) X protein (HBx) is known to be involved in the initiation and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) through modulation of host gene response. Alterations in miRNA expressions are frequently noted in HCC.

We previously described a novel tissue cryopreservation protocol to enable the safe preservation of various autologous stem cell sources. The present study characterized the stem cells derived from long-term cryopreserved dental pulp tissues (hDPSCs-cryo) and analyzed their differentiation into definitive endoderm (DE) and hepatocyte-like cells (HLCs) in vitro.

Hepatocytes located in the periportal and perivenous zones of the liver lobule show remarkable differences in the levels and activities of various enzymes and other proteins. To analyze global gene expression patterns of periportal and perivenous hepatocytes, enriched populations of the two cell types were isolated by combined collagenase⁄digitonin perfusion from mouse liver and used for microarray analysis.

The specific features of the plasticity of adult stem cells are largely unknown. Recently, we demonstrated the hepatic differentiation of human adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AT-MSCs). To identify the genes responsible for hepatic differentiation, we examined the gene expres-sion profiles of AT-MSC-derived hepatocytes (AT-MSC-Hepa) using several microarray methods.

Toll-like receptors and RNA helicase family members [retinoic acid-inducible gene I (RIG-I) and melanoma differentiation associated gene-5 (MDA5)] play important roles in the induction of interferon-bas a major event in innate immune responses after virus infection. TRIF (adaptor pro-tein of Toll-like receptor 3)-mediated and Cardif (adaptor protein of RIG-I or MDA5)-mediated signaling pathways contribute rapid induction of interferon-bthrough the activation of interferon regulatory factor-3 (IRF-3)....

Growth factors are a group of proteins that regulate a wide variety of cel-lular processes, including proliferation, differentiation, motility, adhesion, and apoptosis of target cells. They play crucial roles in the formation and maintenance of tissue architecture in embryonic development and adult tissue homeostasis.
