High technology exports

In recent years, Vietnamese agricultural export has increased significantly due to the growth in the market demand, the improvement in product structure, the intensive application of high technology, as well as the incentives of the government. Nonetheless, the capabilities of Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises’ (SMEs') agricultural products to meet the technical requirements of the international market is still limited.

Thailand is Vietnam's second largest trading partner in ASEAN. Vietnam's main exports products to Thailand are crude oil, computers, electronic products and components, seafood, coal and plastic products. The trade of agricultural products between Vietnam and Thailand has also thrived. Agro-products currently account for 14- 15% of the total trade volume between the two countries. In recent years, Thailand has made many changes in the policy of trade in agricultural products in the direction of modern, high technology associated with the restructuring of agriculture.

A second process was the expansion of soybeans and other crops in the cerrado (savannah) region of Brazil by using varieties, soil amendments and conservation tillage developed through long-standing public investment in research and development that allowed cultivation of acid soils that were previously considered unsuitable for agriculture. This was a major technological success that dramatically increased production and exports.

Overall, Cambodia’s rubber export competitiveness remains weaker than that of other countries in the region, except for the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. One of the problems is that despite the application of conventional technology for the management and maintenance of rubber trees and traditional rubber clones, per- hectare rubber yield remains lower than in other countries of the region.

The fruit industry in Vietnam has a great potential and plays an important role in agricultural production. In 2003, Vietnam exported US$43 million of high value fruit to high-income countries and imported US$14 million of fruit and vegetables. Vietnam is experiencing difficulties in competing with other Asian nations in export markets and its own domestic market, especially with China and Thailand. This suggests that Vietnam’s horticultural industries require substantial development to be globally competitive. Vietnamese consumers are demanding safer and higher quality fruit.

Sounds can be imported and exported as MP3 audio, for high-quality music on the Web at the smallest file sizes. The Flash interface now looks and feels like other Macromedia products, with tool options contained in user-configurable panels. Third-party developers are creating applications that output to the Flash movie format, .SWF files.
