High tibial osteotomy
-
Open wedge high tibial osteotomy is a standard procedure for frontal realignment. It is indicated in varus knee with reduced mechanical medial proximal tibia angle. Overcorrection producing a mechanical medial proximal tibia angle out of the normal range (85–90°) is not recommended because this would lead to unphysiological joint-line orientation.

The use of a tourniquet during high tibial osteotomy (HTO) is a routine procedure, but there is currently no research on the benefits and potential risks of tourniquet use during HTO. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of tourniquet on perioperative blood loss, early functional recovery and complications in opening wedge HTO with modern tranexamic acid protocols.

Simultaneous bilateral distal tibial tubercle high tibial osteotomy (SBDTT-HTO) can result in increased blood loss. The aim of this study is to evaluate the actual hemostatic effect of different tranexamic acid (TXA) treatment regimen in SBDTT-HTO.

High tibial osteotomy is a common procedure to treat symptomatic osteoarthritis of the medial compartment of the knee with varus alignment. This is achieved by overcorrecting the varus alignment to 2-6° of valgus. Various high tibial osteotomy techniques are currently used to this end.

Medial open wedge high tibial osteotomy is a well-established procedure for the treatment of unicompartmental osteoarthritis and symptomatic varus malalignment. We hypothesized that different fixation devices generate different fixation stability profiles for the various wedge sizes in a finite element (FE) analysis.

The neurovascular bundle containing the deep peroneal nerve has a potential risk of injury during open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO), particularly due to drilling for bicortical fixation at distal screw holes.

High tibial osteotomy (HTO) with a medially opening wedge has been used to treat osteoarthritic knees. However, the osteotomized tibia becomes a highly unstable structure and necessitates the use of plate and screws to stabilize the medial opening and enhance bone healing.

We utilized in vivo 3- dimensional (D) computed tomography (CT) to determine whether the preoperatively planned anterior and posterior opening gap heights correlated with the real gaps following opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO), as well as the relationships between anterior and posterior gap heights and change in sagittal tibial slope.

Open wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO) is an established method for the treatment of patients with varus malalignment and medial compartment osteoarthritis. In these patients, health-related quality of life (HRQL) can be improved by using this procedure.

The reason why the osteotomy line in the sagittal view should be parallel to the medial tibial posterior slope in open wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) remains unclear. In addition, previous study reported that a posterolateral hinge position led to an increase in tibial posterior slope (TPS) after OWHTO.

Effectiveness of distal tibial osteotomy with distraction arthroplasty in varus ankle osteoarthritis
In highly active older individuals, end-stage ankle osteoarthritis has traditionally been treated using tibiotalar arthrodesis, which provides considerable pain relief. However, there is a loss of ankle joint movement and a risk of future arthrosis in the adjacent joints.

Although it has been known that medial open wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) would adversely affect the patellofemoral joint, no previous study examined the surgical outcome of MOWHTO according to the preexisting cartilage status of the patellofemoral joint.

It is unclear whether postoperative outcomes are associated with the cartilage regeneration after open wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) combined with microfracture. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the regeneration of the articular cartilage, radiologic, and clinical outcomes after OWHTO with and without microfracture.

Maintenance of optimal knee joint line orientation (KJLO) is important after high tibial osteotomy (HTO). No tools, however, are currently available that could predict the value of postoperative KJLO before surgery. First, this study sought to determine the effects of various preoperative anatomical alignment parameters to postoperative KJLO.

To perform medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO), surgeons expose the medialproximal tibia by releasing or cutting the superficial layer of the medial collateral ligament (sMCL). Biomechanically, the sMCL provides primary restraint against valgus forces.
