To explore challenges of liquid-based cytology (LBC) specimens for next-generation sequencing (NGS) in lung adenocarcinoma and evaluate the efficacy of targeted therapy. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the NGS test of 357 cases of advanced lung adenocarcinoma LBC specimens and compared with results of histological specimens to assess the consistency. The impact of tumor cellularity on NGS test results was evaluated.

Methylation of the promoters of SHOX2 and RASSF1A (LungMe®) exhibits promise as a potential molecular biomarker for diagnosing lung cancer. This study sought to assess the aberrant methylation of SHOX2 and RASSF1A in broncho-exfoliated cells (BEC) and compare it with conventional cytology, histology examination, immunohistochemistry, and serum tumor markers to evaluate the overall diagnostic efficiency for lung cancer.

Immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapies, which potentiate the body’s natural immune response against tumor cells, have shown immense promise in the treatment of various cancers. Currently, tumor mutational burden (TMB) and programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression are the primary biomarkers evaluated for clinical management of cancer patients across histologies.

Mesothelin (MSLN) is a cell-surface glycoprotein found in various solid tumours. Cancer therapies targeting MSLN have been developed in recent years; however, the available information on MSLN expression in cervical cancer is limited. This study aimed to evaluate MSLN expression in various histological types of cervical cancer and examine its relationship with prognosis.

Regular gastroscopy and colonoscopy during the evaluation of urachal cancer: Do we really need them?
Urachal cancer is similar to gastrointestinal adenocarcinoma in histology, and gastroscopy/colonoscopy is often administered during perioperative evaluation. However, gastroscopy and colonoscopy have corresponding disadvantages. This study discusses whether gastroscopy/colonoscopy is truly necessary for patients with urachal cancer.

This work was planned to research the effects of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and/or vitamin E (VE) and sodium selenite (SS), which have antioxidant properties, administered to the liver tissue of male rats. For this purpose, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, antioxidant capacity, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) dUTP nick-end labeling assay, liver function, and DNA structure tests were performed. The lipid profile was also evaluated in this study. Rats that were administered LPS were treated with VE and/or SS.

Clinical efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with uncommon histology (uNSCLC) is unknown. Methods: Patients with NSCLC treated with ICI monotherapy between January 2014 and December 2018 in 10 Japanese hospitals were retrospectively evaluated. The patients were divided into: (1) NSCLC with common histology (cNSCLC), defined as adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma; and (2) uNSCLC, defined as incompatibility with morphological and immunohistochemical criteria for adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma.
