Hot deformation processes

This paper presents the experimental results of researching on plastic shrinkage (plastic deformation) and the effect of curing methods on the process of plastic shrinkage at the early stages when self-compacting concrete (SCC) starts setting and develops the strength.

The results of temperature, strain and stress distribution at various strain rates were reported. The strain/stress distribution exhibited a heterogeneous distribution, indicating inhomogeneity during hot forging.

This chapter provides classification of metal forming processes based on types of forces applied onto metals. • Mechanics of metal forming will be outlined to understand stress criterion for plastic deformation. • Differences between hot and cold working will be highlighted and advantages-disadvantages of hot and cold working will be given. • Effects of deformation speed and friction on metal working process will be included.
