The main objective of this study is the development of surface-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE) modified with folic acid imprinted nanostructures (FA-Imp-poly(MPTS-rGO-co-NAT), which will be used for the first time for folic acid determination in commercially human blood serum. For this purpose, the synthesis of nanostructures has been carried out and characterized by FTIR, SEM-EDS, and AFM. Then, a new chemically modified nanosensor was fabricated for the determination of folic acid using folic acid imprinted nanostructures.

The excessive use of antibiotics in the livestock feed industry caused inevitable side effects of microbial resistance. Besides this residual antibiotics in animal-derived foodstuff imposed serious health problems for humans. So this study aimed to investigate the potential use of Bacillus velezensis to substitute antibiotics for poultry production.

Determining the blood glucose level is important for the prevention and treatment of diabetes mellitus. We developed a sensor system using Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) to determine the blood glucose level from human blood serum. This study consists of two experimental stages: artificial glucose/pure water solution tests and human blood serum tests. In the first stage of the study, the QCM sensor with the highest performance was identified using artificial glucose solution concentrations.

The Gram-positive bacterium Enterococcus faecium is a commensal of the human gastrointestinal tract and a frequent cause of bloodstream infections in hospitalized patients. The mechanisms by which E. faecium can survive and grow in blood during an infection have not yet been characterized. Here, we identify genes that contribute to growth of E. faecium in human serum through transcriptome profiling (RNA-seq) and a highthroughput transposon mutant library sequencing approach (Tn-seq).

Analysis and comparison of the transcriptome of human hepatocytes infected with the Yellow Fever virus to verify the transcriptional profile of both genotypes, in response to viral infection. The sample used corresponds to strains of YFV code H622205, from the state of Goiás-GO (Brazil), a fatal human case isolated from the patient's blood and serum.

Thymidine kinase 1 (TK1) is a cellular enzyme involved in DNA precursor synthesis, and its activity has been used as a proliferation marker for monitoring malignant diseases. Here, for the first time, we evaluated both TK1 activity and protein levels in sera from patients with different malignancies.

Temperature and storage are important determinants of sample stability which is essential for getting credible concentrations of analytes including those of the lipids. This study examined the influence of freeze-thawing and storage on the concentration human of lipid analytes. The study was conducted using samples from One hundred (50 males and 50 females) randomly selected outpatient participants between the ages of 20 – 60 years. Collection of blood samples was done using the antecubital venipuncture.

This study was carried out to know whether the healthy pregnant women silently shed Non-Polio Enteroviruses (NPEVs), because pregnant women are usually immunocompromised in nature. Therefore, rapid strip tests (cassettes) IgM antibody was used to screen human EV71 and CVA16 from serum samples. Out of sixty (60) blood samples collected from Kawo and Yusuf Dan Tsoho General Hospitals in Kaduna, Kaduna state, Nigeria, none of the samples was found positive for Enteroviruses (i.e. Enterovirus 71 (EV71) and Coxachie virus A16 (CVA16).

GSK’s varicella vaccine contains human serum albumin (HSA) which is used to stabilize the virus and prevent immunogens from adhering to the injection vial walls. However, because HSA is derived from human blood, there is a theoretical risk that it might contain infectious agents which could be unsafe for humans.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the most common endocrinopathies observed in dogs. The main clinical manifestations are polydipsia, polyuria, polyphagia, weight loss and glucosuria. The etiology of diabetes mellitus is similar in dogs, cats and humans and is probably multifactorial (genetic, immune and environmental factors). Diabetes mellitus is described to be deficiency or absolute lack of insulin secretion is divided into two types: insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) and non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). Various breed susceptibilities have been reported.

Dengue has become a major international public health problem due to human morbidity and mortality it causes. Dengue NS1 antigen has been detected in the serum of DEN virus infected patients as early as one day of onset of symptoms. In this study the potential use of dengue NS1 antigen and in early dengue diagnosis has been analysed. The study group consists of all febrile patients with fever of duration less than 5 days attending the medical OPD for a period of one year from July 2013. The blood sample was subjected to an immunochromatographic test for NS1 antigen, IgM and IgG antibodies.

Chromium has been recognized as a new and important micro-nutrient, essential for both human and animal nutrition. This study was conducted to evaluate the appropriateness and/or the use of safety level of dietary chromium picolinate (Cr-Pic), and its effects on the physiological responses, the histometric characteristics, and the chemical analysis of dorsal muscles of mono-sex Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. niloticus. A total of 420 fingerlings (28.00 ± 0.96 g) were randomly distributed into 21 fiberglass tanks representing seven treatments at a rate of 20 fish m3 .

To study the impact of radish oil on the possible genotoxic and hepatotoxic effects of hexavalent chromium, male rats were divided into 4 groups. Group 1 served as control, group 2 received radish oil at the recommended human therapeutic dose (0.07 mL/kg) by gavage, group 3 received sodium dichromate dihydrate (SDD) 520 mg/L in drinking water, and group 4 received both SDD and radish oil as previously mentioned in groups 2 and 3. All treatments were continued for six months.

Inflammation and oxidative stress are two faces of one coin in end stage renal disease patients (ESRD) on maintenance hemodialysis. Their interconnection induces anemia complicated with erythropoietin hyporesponsiveness. The biochemical bases behind the resistance to erythropoietin therapy with frequent hemoglobinemia, oxidative stress and iron status have not been fully understood. Here two equal groups (40 patients each) of responders and non-responders to recombinant human erythropoietin therapy (higher than 300 IU/kg/wk of epoetin) were inves-tigated.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine disruptor which can bind to the oestrogen receptor. It also possesses oestrogenic, antiandrogenic, inflammatory and oxidative properties. Since bone responds to changes in sex hormones, inflammatory and oxidative status, BPA exposure could influence bone health in humans.

The structure of post-translational modifications of human heparin cofactor II isolated from human serum and from recombinant Chinese hamster ovary cells and their effects on heparin binding have been characterized. Oligosaccharide chains were found attached to all three potential N-glycosylation sites in both protein preparations. The carbohydrate structures of heparin cofactor II circulating in blood are complex-type diantennary and triantennary chains in a ratio of 6 : 1 with the galactose being 90% sialylated with a2 fi 6 linked N-acetylneuraminic acid....

Cys34 in domain I of the three-domain serum protein albumin is the bind-ing site for a wide variety of biologically and clinically important small molecules, provides antioxidant activity, and constitutes the largest portion of free thiol in blood. Analysis of X-ray structures of albumin reveals that the loop containing Tyr84 occurs in multiple conformations. In structures where the loop is well defined, there appears to be an H-bond between the OH of Tyr84 and the sulfur of Cys34.

Besides esterase activity, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinest-erase (BuChE) hydrolyze o-nitroacetanilides through aryl acylamidase activity. We have reported that BuChE tetramers and monomers of human blood plasma differ ino-nitroacetanilide (ONA) hydrolysis. The homology in quaternary structure and folding of subunits in the prevalent BuChE species (G H 4) of human plasma and AChE forms of fetal bovine serum prompted us to study the esterase and amidase activities of fetal bovine serum AChE. ...
