This thesis attempts to address the problem of how best to remedy different types of channel distortions on speech when that speech is to be used in automatic speaker recognition and verification systems. Automatic speaker recognition is when a person's voice is analysed by a machine and the person's identity is worked out by the comparison of speech features to a known set of speech features. Automatic speaker verification is when a person claims an identity and the machine determines if that claimed identity is correct or whether that person is an impostor.

The concept of coworking caters to freelancers and entrepreneurs who not only seek a shared office space but also be part of a socially bound group with similar ideas and goals. The aim of providing a space that fosters collaboration, sense of community, enhances creativity and sustains communication within a diverse group of independent professionals. Whilst the concept has flourished over the span of 10 years, little is known of the participants’ experiences within coworking spaces and whether such spaces do deliver what it promises.

Objects, when understood as retrieval cues for memories, may elicit psychological benefits and connections to an individual's past. They are integral to our life story and help to form our individual sense of identity and ability to establish a sound psychological foundation. Transitional objects are an important related category of objects that have been identified in this research. The concept and use of transitional objects and their related phenomena during infancy is well researched, whereas the impact and importance beyond infancy is less established.

This dissertation has been developed to understand how coworkers construct their identity within the Hive. With literature supporting the notion of identity construction such as identity struggle, organizational identification, identification of optimal balances between self and professional identities within traditional bureaucratic organizations, the aim of this dissertation seeks to determine how identity work is being constructed within a coworking space in a single case study.

This work describes two new fatty acid binding proteins (FABPs) identified in the parasite platyhelminth Mesocestoides vogae(syn. corti). The corre-sponding polypeptide chains share 62% identical residues and overall 90% similarity according to clustalx default conditions.

A simple q-analogue of the sum of cubes is given. This answers a question posed in this journal by Garrett and Hummel. In their paper Garrett and Hummel commiserate the fact that (1) is not as simple as one might have hoped, and ask for a simpler sum of q-cubes. In response to this I propose the identity

We establish three identities involving Dyck paths and alternating Motzkin paths, whose proofs are based on variants of the same bijection. We interpret these identities in terms of closed random walks on the halfline. We explain how these identities arise from combinatorial interpretations of certain properties of the -Hermite and -Laguerre ensembles of random matrix theory. We conclude by presenting two other identities obtained in the same way, for which finding combinatorial proofs is an open problem....
