Immersed boundary method

In this study, a numerical solver has been developed for simulating the interaction of solid bodies with twophase flow. The simplified direct forcing method is adopted to describe the presence of structures in flow, combining with the Pressure-Implicit Split-Operator (PISO) algorithm to address the velocity-pressure coupling in Navier-Stokes equations.

In this article, we introduce a new numerical solver for the Fluid-Structure Interaction problem. The solver is developed using Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) integrated into OpenFOAM environment. The velocitypressure coupling is implemented via modifying the PISO algorithm of OpenFOAM.

The immersed boundary method (IBM) is used for the simulations of the two-dimensional cases. The calculations are carried out on a Eulerian-Lagrangian grid using the finite difference method. The simulations are performed using two Reynolds numbers 100 and 200. The streamline and vorticity contours of the flow around the cylinders and force time histories are presented.

In this paper, we introduce a numerical method which utilizes immersed boundary to represent motion of solid object under effect of 3-dimension fluid flow. In the current method, we developed a numerical method for enforcing viscous boundary conditions on the immersed boundary.
