In this study, ten phthalic acid esters (PAEs) were measured in indoor and outdoor air samples collected from Hanoi metropolitan areas. The target compounds were adsorbed onto a solid adsorbent matrix (C18) with a low-speed pump and then analyzed using gas chromatographytandem mass spectrometry.

The most typical air pollutants including PM10, CO, SO2, NOx are monitored at different sites indoor (basement, shopping malls) and outdoor (ambient air) of several complex buildings which are used for different purposes of resident, office, and shopping malls in Hanoi. The results show that the indoor air pollution concentrations tend to be higher than the corresponding pollutants of the ambient air.

The combustion of biomass and coal significantly contributes to the total health burden due to the emission of gaseous pollutants and particulate matter. To determine the personal exposure related to beehive coal stove cooking in Hanoi, an assessment study on 120 females in three wards (Tran Hung Dao, Phuc Tan, and Chuong Duong) of Ha Noi city, Viet Nam was conducted. Personal and ambient concentrations of PM2.5 and CO (upwind, nearsource, far-source) were simultaneously measured twice a day at each household by PATS++ equipment developed by Berkeley Air Monitoring group.
