In this paper, the author uses steel slag, a byproduct of steelmaking processes, for replacing crushed aggregate in base or subbase course. Steel slag-stone dust aggregate (70% steel slag and 30% stone dust) are treated with a cement content of 4%- 8%.

This study was to test for fish bone discarded from industrial processing as a calcium-fortified supplement to human diet. It is also to evaluate the bioavailability of calcium from fish bone in a powder form and its application in food such as bread. Catfish bone, Salmon bone and Snapper bone were treated by alkaline treatment. Chemical compositions of these fish bones were determined in term of moisture, ash, calcium, and phosphorus.

Shrimp by-product from shrimp processing industry was hydrolyzed by alcalase and flavourzyme and the process was optimized by response surface methodology. Shrimp byproduct was ground and treated with fixed alcalase 0.2 % (4.8A U/kg protein) and flavourzyme of different loadings (0.1 - 0.4 %), pH (6.0 - 9.0), temperature (45 - 65 oC) and hydrolysis time (5 - 1 3 h).
