Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a gas used in medicine for its analgesic, anxiolytic and amnesic properties. It is a drug considered safe if adequately administered. In the literature, accidental N2O-related deaths are rare. They are mostly related to inhalation of this substance for recreational and autoerotic purposes; rarely are reported deaths due to incorrect administration of medical gas in anesthesia.

These devices are generally used to deliver nicotine through inhalation by aerosolization. While the longterm risk of lung cancer is yet to be known, the chemicals and impurities in the solutions may have other acute and chronic effects on the respiratory system including respiratory failure from adult respiratory distress syndrome.

Systemic corticosteroids are considered to be the standard treatment for allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA). However, there is controversy regarding use of inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) therapy for ABPA. Here we report a case of ABPA that was successfully treated with inhaled fluticasone furoate/vilanterol (FF/VI) and oral voriconazole (VRCZ).

Malignant hyperthermia is an extremely dangerous condition that can occur with exposure to volatile inhalant anesthetics and depolarizing muscle relaxants, and that requires immediate intervention. Neurological complications have rarely been reported, with no reports of electroencephalographic abnormalities or encephalopathy.

Management of children who present with a history of impossible mask ventilation or difficult tracheal intubation is fraught with challenges. Despite this, the “airway stress test” of an inhalational induction is frequently employed risking airway obstruction, breath holding, apnea, and laryngospasm.

Tranexamic acid is a well-known antifibrinolytic medication frequently prescribed to individuals with bleeding disorders. Following accidental intrathecal injection of tranexamic acid, major morbidities and fatalities have been documented. The aim of this case report is to present a novel method for management of intrathecal injection of tranexamic acid.

Waste anesthetic gases (WAGs) leaked from new-type halogenated inhalational anesthetics such as sevoflurane have been were reported to pose a risk for the health of operating room personnel. The effects of WAGs on peripheral blood lymphocytes, however, remain yet controversial. The present study was undertaken to examine the effects of occupational sevoflurane exposure on the peripheral blood lymphocytes of medical personnel who work in the operating room.

In the local setting, asthma control is assessed by symptoms and signs elicited by clinicians because of the limited availability of spirometry. Hence, we intended to develop a patient reported outcome measure (PROM) with more holistic interpretation that could also serve as a tool to measure the asthma control in resource limited settings.

There is little evidence about the factors that predict persistence/adherence in treatment-naïve patients with COPD in clinical practice. The aim of this study was to evaluate persistence and adherence levels among treatment-naïve patients diagnosed with COPD who had a prescribed inhaled medication, using data from real-world clinical practice.

The proper use of inhaled bronchodilator medications by patients suffering from asthma is directly related to the quality of life as it affects their daily life. So it would be necessary health professionals to develop instruments and methods to deal with this public health issue, so as to train patients, who suffer from chronic asthma, as regards to the proper technique and the use of inhaled bronchodilators.

Although asthma morbidity can be prevented through long-term controller medication, most patients with persistent asthma do not take their daily inhaled corticosteroid. The objective of this study was to gather patients’ insights into barriers and facilitators to taking long-term daily inhaled corticosteroids as basis for future knowledge translation interventions.

Novel therapies need to be evaluated in normal clinical practice to allow a true representation of the treatment effectiveness in real-world settings. Methods/design: The Salford Lung Study is a pragmatic randomised controlled trial in adult asthma, evaluating the clinical effectiveness and safety of once-daily fluticasone furoate (100 μg or 200 μg)/vilanterol 25 μg in a novel dry-powder inhaler, versus existing asthma maintenance therapy.

Medications for respiratory disorders including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are typically delivered to the lung by means of a handheld inhaler. Patient preference for and ability to use the inhaler may influence their adherence to maintenance therapy, and adherence may affect treatment outcomes.
