  • Ebook "Principles of terrestrial ecosystem ecology (Second edition)" regards living organisms, including people, and the elements of their environment as components of a single integrated system. The comprehensive coverage in this textbook examines the central processes at work in terrestrial ecosystems, including their freshwater components. It traces the flow of energy, water, carbon, and nutrients from their abiotic origins to their cycles through plants, animals, and decomposer organisms.

  • To develop fertilizer prescription equation for rice, a field experiment was conducted on an inceptisol of farmer‟s field at Arachikuppam village, Puducherry during 2015 by using integrated plant nutrient management system on the basis of STCR approach. The rice grain and straw yield was significantly increased with the soil test values and fertilizer doses of N, P and K. Based on the experiment, the nutrient requirement for producing 1 quintal of rice grain was 1.46 kg of N, 0.60 kg of P2O5 and 1.12 kg of K2O, respectively.

  • Continuous use of chemical fertilizers without organic sources poses soil health issues whereas organic manures using alone without inorganics could not be able to fulfill the requirement of high nutrient demanding crops due to the bulk and slow-acting nature of these organic fertilizer sources. However, neither organic fertilizers nor inorganic fertilizers alone can maintain productivity. The major yield limiting factors in crops production in Indian soils are NPS deficiencies.

  • Plant roots, soil and microbial interactions result in alteration of soil physical and chemical properties that in turn affect the micro-biological properties in the rhizosphere region. The growth and productivity of plant depends upon the diversity and composition of soil microflora present near rhizosphere zone. The aim of this study is to review the effect of organic, inorganic and integrated use of nutrients on soil properties under different land use systems in rhizospheric region.

  • In India, among different cultivars of robusta coffee, S.274 has become more popular due to its wide adaptability and its bold beans character. The current field experiment was conducted to know the effect of organics and INM method of nutrition, shade pattern and irrigation schedule on the leaf carbohydrate status and yield of genotype S.274. The carbohydrate economy of the plant is usually regarded as an integrated system of sources and sinks. Present experiment shows that, both organic and INM methods of nutrition had a significant effect on leaf carbohydrates and product.
